Connie Shaw – Mitchells Chartered Accountants

Name: Connie Shaw

Age: 20

Lives in: Sheffield

Apprenticeship: AAT Level 3 Apprenticeship

Employer: Mitchells Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers

Training Provider: Babington Group

Before joining Mitchells Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers as an apprentice, Connie was undertaking a Level 3 BTEC in Business Study and Finance, with the intention of going on to university and becoming a Chartered Accountant.

However, a year into the course she decided that the apprenticeship route was the best way for her to achieve her ambitions. She explained: “I am a practical learner so getting real experience is really helpful and it’s a bonus that you get to earn while you learn.”

Connie’s family and friends were supportive throughout her search for an apprenticeship. She said: “It took around 2-3 months for me to find my apprenticeship. There were plenty of opportunities, but I just wanted to make sure I found the right one for me where I could develop in a growing company.”

Her advice to young people considering an apprenticeship is: “Don’t be put off by the wages that are offered; when you get your qualification at the end of it all, it will be worth it.”
