Ovo Energy Women’s Tour – Chesterfield
Chesterfield will host the penultimate stage of The Women’s Tour on Saturday 10 June, with Stage Four of the UCI Women’s World Tour event both starting and finishing in the town.
The 130-kilometre stage will build on the successful first hosting of the race in 2016, when Lizzie Deignan took the win in Chesterfield, a key moment in her overall victory in last year’s Women’s Tour.
The Derbyshire stage of The Women’s Tour will start and finish again in the historic town centre of Chesterfield. The likes of Wirksworth, Belper, Bolsover and Staveley will all feature on the route.
All of the world’s top 15 teams will take part in the race, which is a part of the UCI Women’s WorldTour, including the world’s number one team Boels Dolmans, of defending race champion Lizzie Deignan, ensuring British fans can again look forward to cheering on the world’s best riders. In addition the British-based Drops and WNT teams will complete the 17 team field.

Women’s Tour Stage 4 Route
As the Tour’s toughest stage, it will take in a wide mix of rural and urban areas starting and finishing in Chesterfield and passing through some of the county’s best-known market towns including Belper, Bolsover and Wirksworth. The stage is 130-kilometre long.
Eisberg Sprints will take place in Belper and Staveley, while the SKODA Queen of the Mountains climbs will be in Crich and Middleton Top.

Activities in Chesterfield town centre
On the day, there will be plenty for people to see and do in Chesterfield town centre. Some of this will include:
• 120 local schoolchildren cycling around Queen’s Park before travelling over the footbridge into the town centre.
• In the town centre there will be a sponsor village where people can see the products produced by the event’s sponsors.
• Follow the Women’s Tour Bike Trail. Check out the bike painted by local schools around the town sponsored by Chesterfield Healthand Wellbeing Partnership supported by Healthy High Streets Partnership. Find out more

• Have a go on balance bikes.
• Chesterfield Borough Council will be encouraging people to eat healthily with smoothie making demonstrations.

Women’s Tour in Chesterfield – Road Closure Information
Chesterfield Borough Council are working with Derbyshire County Council and event organisers SweetSpot to help bring the Ovo Energy Women’s Tour 2017 to Chesterfield.
For the majority of the race, a rolling road closure is in place, meaning the roads on and around the route will only be closed for the short period in which it takes for the race to pass by – usually around 15 minutes around the estimated time of arrival.
The rolling road closure managed by a team of police and specialist cycle race motorcyclists travelling in advance of the riders to ensure that the route is clear and safe.
The race start and finishes in Chesterfield town centre, and the route must be clear of parked vehicles. Residents will have been advised that they are on the race route, which will be clearly marked with yellow warning signs. Please don’t park on the route on the day of the stage if the race is due to pass by, cars that are causing an obstruction may be moved.
In order to host the race, certain roads in Chesterfield will have to be closed from midnight until 5pm on Saturday 10 June.

Access for emergency services will be allowed at all times. Market traders
will have access to the market place from 6am to 8am. We will allow
access for residents and businesses where possible.

Women’s Tour in Chesterfield Car Parking
We expect many visitors to Chesterfield on the day to watch the start and finish of the race.
Most the town’s car parks will open on the day, some will have restricted access during certain parts of the day due to the road closures as the cycle race assembles and passes through.
Rose Hill and Albion Road car parks will be closed all day. We would recommend using New Beetwell Street and Vicar Lane multi-storey car parks.
Car parks on the railway station side of town or the old Queen’s Park Sports Centre car parks can be used but they will face disruption, particularly from 1pm until the race finishes.
