Remembering the forgotten Holocaust

Chesterfield residents can find out about forgotten victims of the Holocaust in an event held to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

Sarah Matthias, the author of A Berlin Love Song will speak about her research into the Romani sufferings during the Second World War.

An estimated 220,000 to 500,000 Romanis were killed by Nazis and collaborators between 1939 and 1945.

Councillor Sharon Blank, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for governance, said:-

“The sufferings from the Romani community in Europe are largely unknown and this talk will allow people to find out more about what has been called the forgotten Holocaust.

“The event is open to all and I’d encourage people to attend.”

The event is free but spaces are limited. Tickets are available from:

  • Chesterfield Library – information desk and Café Browser in new Beetwell Street
  • Chesterfield Waterstones, Vicar Lane Shopping Centre
  • Chesterfield Equality and Diversity Forum, please contact Allison Potter by email: allison.potter@chesterfield.gov.uk or call (01246) 345247.
