Elizabeth Hulbert – Chesterfield Borough Council
Name: Elizabeth Hulbert
Employer: Chesterfield Borough Council
Apprenticeship: Level 3 CMI Team Leader
Elizabeth’s advice: “For those who feel they are not progressing at work, an apprenticeship is a great idea. It gives you the push you need to develop your skills and aim towards getting a role that will give you more job satisfaction.”
Elizabeth has a long-held passion for local government and has worked in it since graduating university in 2015.
It was whilst speaking to someone in the HR department at Chesterfield Borough Council that she become aware of apprenticeships as a way to develop her career and she embarked on the CMI Level 3 in Team Leading which she completed during lockdown.
She said: “I wanted to progress in my skills as a local government employee and gain recognition in the future for interviews for more senior job positions than the post I was currently in. I enjoyed learning about different aspects of management and gaining an understanding of this for future career opportunities.
“Initially, when I started my apprenticeship, I wanted to develop my career by working in the Housing department for the council. It was through shadowing different areas of housing prior to me starting my apprenticeship that I identified which area I wanted to focus on in my apprenticeship.
“I most enjoyed my time within the homelessness department and securing a job within that department through further shadowing.”
