Ashgate Hospice
Ashgate Hospice provides specialist palliative care free of charge to people with life-limiting illnesses living in Chesterfield and North Derbyshire. The aim of Ashgate Hospice is to maintain the best quality of life for the patient throughout their illness, and support their family and carers for as long as they wish. Care is delivered by specially trained staff in a number of ways, including through the In-Patient Unit, Day Centre, Out-Patient Suite, Home Care Service and Hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team. Even though Ashgate Hospice receives some statutory funding from the Government, a staggering £2.7 million needs to be raised annually through voluntary contributions and fundraising.
Head of Fundraising and Communications, Joanne Edwards, said, “We are genuinely excited and proud to belong to Chesterfield Champions. Since our original appeal, over 25 years ago now, the local businesses and residents of Chesterfield have really taken us to their hearts and have been very generous in continuing to support our work in so many different ways. Chesterfield is full of passionate, caring people without whom we certainly could not provide the vital services that make such a difference to our patients and their families at a time when it probably matters the most. Of course we have also cared for a great number of local people over the years and have consequently touched the lives of many living and working in the area; their dignity and bravery is a constant source of inspiration to us. For these reasons we really want to play our part in promoting our town and all the special people in it.”
