Chesterfield talent recognised at Derbyshire and Nottingham Apprenticeships Awards

Several Chesterfield Champions were recognised at this year’s Derbyshire and Nottingham Apprenticeships Awards, celebrating apprentices’ achievements and the businesses, colleges and universities supporting their development.

The awards took place at Crowne Plaza Nottingham by IHG on  Thursday, 1st, October 2026, and recognised achievements across a range of categories, including apprentices, employers, mentors and training providers.

Local roofing business Dalton Roofing celebrated particular success, with Philip Dalton, Managing Director at Dalton Roofing, named Apprentice Ambassador in recognition of his work championing apprenticeships and supporting the development of the next generation.

Philip Dalton said:

“Winning the Apprentice Ambassador award is a real honour and something I’m incredibly proud of. Apprenticeships have an important role to play in our industry, giving people the opportunity to learn valuable practical skills, gain qualifications and build confidence as they begin their careers.

At Dalton Roofing, we’ve seen first-hand the difference that the right support, guidance and experience can make to someone’s development. To have that commitment recognised with this award means a great deal to me personally and to the whole team at Dalton Roofing.”

The Chesterfield-based business also celebrated recognition for apprentice Devon Bottomley, who was highly commended in the Intermediate Apprentice category. Devon is completing his apprenticeship with Dalton Roofing, with Chesterfield College supporting his training and development.

Devon Bottomley said:

“Being highly commended for this award means so much to me. Starting an apprenticeship was an important step towards developing my skills, building my confidence and creating a positive future for myself and my family, so to have that journey recognised in this way is incredibly special.

I’m very grateful for the encouragement and support I’ve received from everyone at Dalton Roofing. They have helped me recognise what I am capable of and given me the opportunities and experience to keep developing. I’m incredibly proud to have been highly commended and it has made all the hard work feel even more worthwhile.”

The awards also highlighted the role of education providers in supporting apprentices across the region, with the University of Derby supporting several of the recognised apprentices.

Nathaniel David, of Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, was named the winner of the Higher Apprentice category, with the University of Derby listed as his education provider. Terri Wilson, of Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, was highly commended in the Degree Apprentice category and is also supported by the University of Derby.

The recognition highlights the opportunities available through apprenticeships, combining workplace experience with education and training to help people develop skills and build careers.
