Peak Edge Hotel bucks UK hospitality trend with strong year of growth

Peak Edge, a 4-star family-owned countryside retreat on the edge of the Peak District. The hotel has reported strong year-on-year growth across all areas of its business.

Between October 2024 and July 2025, the hotel recorded:

  • +15% net revenue in beverages at The Red Lion Restaurant & Bar

  • +9% net revenue in food

  • +26% venue-hire revenue from weddings and events

  • +9.4% accommodation net revenue

Managing Director Mark Thurman said: “The wider UK hospitality sector has faced rising costs and softer consumer spending. These results show that when you focus on authenticity, provenance and personal service, guests still want to spend. Our setting on the edge of the Peak District is a real draw, and our farm-to-fork dining and attention to guest experience continue to resonate.”

Owner Steve Perez added: “This hotel and the surrounding landscape are part of my family story. That deep sense of place runs through everything we do.”

While demand and revenue are strong, margins remain tight due to rising food, energy and supplier costs, as well as recent tax changes. Plans for additional bedrooms and a spa have been paused. The designs are ready, and growth will continue when conditions improve.

Dating back to 1788, Peak Edge blends rustic heritage with contemporary comfort. The hotel has 27 individually designed rooms and offers award-winning dining. Its success shows that quality, authenticity and innovation remain key to business in the Chesterfield area.
