Chesterfield Champions continue growth across business, marketing and visitor economy

Our Chesterfield Champions have continued to grow and invest across the borough over the past few months, with new developments from Mortgage 1st, Hello Social Avenue and Chesterfield Escape Rooms strengthening the local economy.

Mortgage 1st continues growth with two strategic acquisitions

Derbyshire-based mortgage brokerage, Mortgage 1st, has announced the acquisition of two established broker firms as part of its continued expansion across the UK mortgage market.

Led by husband-and-wife team Jon and Lisa Stones, the family-run business has acquired Key Mortgages and Mortgage & Equity Release Advice during 2026, strengthening its position in the residential, specialist and later life lending sectors.

Now in its 18th year, award-winning Mortgage 1st has continued to grow year-on-year and has supported thousands of customers across the UK. The firm has built its reputation on delivering five-star service through efficient operations, expert advice and strong customer care.

Despite its continued growth, Mortgage 1st says maintaining its people-first culture and family-business values remains central to its long-term vision.

Speaking about the acquisitions, Managing Director, Jon Stones said:

“When we look at acquisition opportunities, it’s never just about the numbers. For us, it is about finding businesses that share our values, culture and approach to clients. Both Key Mortgages and Mortgage & Equity Release Advice are fantastic businesses with excellent reputations, and we’re incredibly proud to welcome them into the Mortgage 1st group.”

The acquisition of Key Mortgages followed strong interest from brokerage owners after Mortgage 1st announced its intention to explore mergers and acquisitions. More than 50 firms made contact, with Key Mortgages selected due to its cultural fit and reputation within the shared ownership market.

Key Mortgages will continue to operate under its existing brand within the Mortgage 1st group, with founder Ryan Joyce remaining in the business to support clients and advisers.

Mortgage & Equity Release Advice will also retain its established brand identity, ensuring continuity for existing clients and introducer relationships while strengthening Mortgage 1st’s position in the later life lending market.

Operations Director, Lisa Stones, added:

“We’re incredibly proud of our team and what we’re building together. We value the respect we have earned within the industry, the loyalty and trust our customers continue to show us, and the culture our team has helped create.”

The business says it is continuing to explore further acquisition opportunities throughout 2026 as part of its wider expansion plans.

Chesterfield Escape Rooms expands offering with new immersive prison break experience

Based in the heart of our town centre, Chesterfield Escape Rooms has expanded its range of immersive experiences with the launch of a brand-new game, created in response to strong demand from returning customers looking for fresh and engaging challenges.

The Inside Job, a fast-paced prison break-themed escape room, is designed to deliver a highly immersive and unpredictable experience for players of all ages.

Founded five years ago with just three escape room games, Chesterfield Escape Rooms has grown to offer six original experiences, each built around unique storylines and detailed set design. The expansion reflects continued demand from families, corporate groups, schools and repeat visitors travelling from across the UK.

Belle Fox, Manager of Chesterfield Escape Rooms, commented:

“This was inspired directly by our customers. One of the questions we are asked most often is, ‘When is your next game coming?’ We are incredibly lucky to have so many returning players, and we always want to give them a fresh reason to come back and enjoy another amazing experience.

“Creating new games keeps things exciting for our loyal customers and allows us to continue offering something unique and memorable.”

The Inside Job introduces a new live actor element, adding an extra layer of tension, humour and unpredictability to the experience. Players must work together to break out before time runs out, with unexpected twists designed to keep teams fully engaged from start to finish.

Development of the new game took several months and included a strong focus on sustainability, with parts of an existing set reused and repurposed to reduce waste. A completely new clue system and gameplay structure were also introduced to ensure a fresh experience for returning players.

Customer feedback during the early launch period has been extremely positive, with players highlighting the immersive storytelling and interactive gameplay as standout features.

Chesterfield Escape Rooms has also received the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for the past two consecutive years, reflecting consistently strong customer reviews and experiences.

Looking ahead, the business says it will continue to develop new ideas to keep experiences fresh, with further expansion plans remaining under consideration as it focuses on the continued success of The Inside Job.
