Challenge excites new Spireites signing

New signing Reece Mitchell admits the lure of first-team football prompted him to join Chesterfield from Chelsea after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed deal.

Speaking to Spireites Player HD, Mitchell said:-

“I had a really good season in the under-21s season at Chelsea and I was offered another year, but I wanted to play some first-team football and get some league experience. So when Chesterfield showed interest, I was really happy and was raring to go. I couldn’t say ‘no’ to Chesterfield.

“I’m really happy to be here and I’m excited about the challenge. I know they’re a club pushing for promotion Last season was not the best season, but the season before that, they got to the play-offs and did really well. The manager here likes to play young players, has a good philosophy and the upcoming season looks promising.”

The prospect of uprooting from his native south does not faze the 20-year-old. Mitchell says:-

“I’m really excited about it. I’ve lived in London all my life and been at Chelsea a decade now so it will be a different experience but it’s an experience I’m looking forward to.”

Mitchell helped Chelsea win the FA Youth Cup in 2012 and the Under-21 Premier League two years later.
