The much-loved Tapton Lock Festival returns on Saturday, 5th September 2026, bringing a packed programme of free arts, culture and outdoor activities to Chesterfield Canal.
What to expect
Launched by Junction Arts in 2013, the Tapton Lock Festival is a free and inclusive celebration, designed to promote health, wellbeing and creativity for local people. For over a decade, it has provided opportunities for people to try new skills, connect with nature and take part in cultural experiences.
This year’s one-day festival will feature a wide range of activities and entertainment for all ages, including:
- Free canal boat rides and have-a-go canoeing
- A climbing wall, circus skills and the ever-popular bubble-ologist
- Eco-themed family craft activities led by Bring it to Tapton grant winners Nadiia Ischuck and Katie Ceesay
- Live performances from Creswell Brass Band and Sunflower Dance
- The launch of a brand-new story trail and interactive activity celebrating Junction Arts’ 50th anniversary
- A Polish cultural stall from Polonia Chesterfield, showcasing traditional music, food and an exhibition
- Food from the Asian Association, alongside community groups and charity stalls
- A variety of food and drink, including woodfired pizza, coffee, ice cream and freshly baked goods

All Tapton Lock Festival activities are free and people of all ages are invited to get involved.
