Chesterfield Royal Hospital appoints new Chair
Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has appointed Jackie Smith as Chair, bringing extensive leadership experience as the organisation refreshes its five‑year strategy and focuses on patient care.
Appointed following a competitive process led by the Council of Governors, Jackie brings strong partnership experience across health and public services. She has previously chaired NHS organisations spanning acute, mental health, community and specialist care.
Her arrival comes at an important time as the Trust refreshes its five‑year strategy, Improving Care Together, while continuing its focus on delivering high‑quality, compassionate care.
Most recently, Jackie served as Chair of Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the organisation through post‑pandemic recovery and system integration. Earlier in her career, she was Chief Executive of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, where she led major transformation and regulatory reform.
As a Chesterfield resident, Jackie has a strong connection to the community and is known for her inclusive, values‑led leadership approach.
Jayne Stringfellow, Interim Chair, will complete her nine‑year tenure in September and will continue as Non‑Executive Director and Chair of the Charitable Funds Committee until then. Paul Wood remains Senior Independent Director and Deputy Trust Chair.
Carol Warren, Lead Governor, Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“My personal gratitude goes to Jayne for her outstanding commitment and contribution to the Trust over many years, and for the leadership she continues to provide.
“It is also a pleasure to welcome Jackie, who was appointed by the Governors as part of our statutory duty at the Trust. I look forward to continuing to work with such caring and experienced professionals.”
Jackie’s focus as Chair is to ensure the Trust remains centred on delivering safe, high‑quality care for patients, supporting colleagues and working in partnership to improve health outcomes for local communities.
