Ashgate Hospicecare is an independent registered charity that provides specialist palliative and end of life care and support to adults and their families across North Derbyshire. The needs of the patients, their families, friends and carers are fundamental to the philosophy of the Hospice and our aim is to enable people to achieve the best possible quality of life in accordance with their wishes
The hospice has a 21-bed inpatient unit, 16-place day unit and provides a range of therapy and support services on site. The hospice also provides a wide range of community-based care and support services to enable people to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. We do not charge patients for the services we provide, however it costs £6.5 million a year to provide these valuable services, of which over £4 million needs to be raised purely through voluntary contributions and fundraising.
Esther Wakeman, Director of Fundraising & Marketing at Ashgate Hospicecare says:-
“There is a phenomenal sense of community in Chesterfield and as a local charity Ashgate Hospicecare has benefited from this. The support we receive enables us to care for more than 2,000 patients every year, many of whom live in Chesterfield.
“Being part of Destination Chesterfield gives us an opportunity to promote this great town and engage with local people as well as being a voice for the people we care for with any life-limiting illness. It has provided us with up-to-date information about the local area and great networking.”
