SAIL Derbyshire
Established in 1992, SAIL Derbyshire is a registered charity based in Chesterfield town centre. It provides free, specialist counselling for adults aged 18 and over. The organisation supports individuals who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, incest, or sexual violence. In addition, SAIL offers support through Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs).
All counsellors at SAIL Derbyshire are either fully qualified or completing placements through college or university. Each brings a deep understanding of the recovery journey, offering empathy and professionalism in every session.
SAIL follows the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This commitment ensures good practice, professional integrity, and a strong ethical foundation across all services provided in its clinical environment.
In recent years, the charity has expanded its support by launching a free helpline and drop-in sessions, available at selected times from Monday to Friday. These services allow the team to reach more people across the community and provide timely, accessible help.
Proudly supporting residents in Chesterfield and the surrounding areas, SAIL also works in partnership with other local charities and healthcare organisations. These collaborations strengthen the network of care available to those in need.
Ruth Gartland, Director at SAIL, said:
“We are very pleased to be working with Destination Chesterfield to raise the profile of the town, while also informing local people about the specialist services we offer.
“Of course, we hope that no one ever finds themselves in a situation where they need our support. However, for any resident who does experience abuse, we want them to know we are here — to listen, to support, and to provide a completely confidential and non-judgemental service.
“Chesterfield is currently undergoing a wide range of exciting regeneration projects, which are attracting more people to live and work here. As a result, we remain committed to playing our part in making the town a welcoming and supportive place to call home.”
