Chesterfield Champions

SDL Minorfern

Minorfern Limited was established in Clay Cross, Chesterfield in 1978 by Peter Holland and his wife Heather. The business developed steadily over the years from a small automotive supplier to what it is today, a supplier of over 50,000 different tools, equipment and car parts for all vehicles to the garage and car repair trade.

In 2004 Minorfern acquired SDL, adding branches in Derby and Sheffield and has grown to 12 branches, opening the 12th in Leeds in December 2020. The business now trades as SDL Minorfern with 300 employees, 120 vans making nearly 1,000,000 deliveries every year.

The heart of the business however, the head office and distribution centre have remained in Clay Cross with 100 employees based here and dedicated to serving the 11 other branches.

The business is led by Nick Holland, Peter and Heather’s son, and a leadership team brought together to ensure the continued success of the business.
‘I’m immensely proud to be leading SDL Minorfern in the same town it was established over 40 years ago by my Dad. We continue to grow, a success made possible by the commitment of our employees right across our business.

“Chesterfield is an ideal place for our business with great transport connections to all major conurbations of the Midlands, the North and North West and the South East and London less than two hours away by train or car.”

Aaron Firth of the leadership team added: “Recent developments in the town centre show what was (and still is) a thriving market town is now developing into a major commercial force in the region. To live so close to the Dales, to be surrounded by the history and beauty of natural England and to have such commercial opportunity on your doorstep has to be a unique privilege.”
