Visit the Town Centre
Start off your half term with a free caricature in Vicar Lane on Saturday 25th May!
For older children and teenagers, why not check out Geeks Headquarters, which are hosting half term game tournaments on 25th and 26th May as well as Saturday 1st June, find out more here. Head along, meet new friends and try new games, all are welcome. For those into games and comics, there are various showings of Avengers – End Game throughout the week at the Pomegranate Theatre – no spoilers please!
On Monday 27th May, take the kids for an afternoon of fun with There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly with a feast of sing along songs, colourful animal characters and heart warming family fun.
In the town centre on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June, enjoy family film Wonder Park at the Pomegranate, which tells the story of a magnificent amusement park where the imagination of a wildly creative girl named June comes alive. Whilst in town, the Mega Lego Play Week takes place from Thursday 30th May until Saturday 1st June at the Chesterfield Museum & Art Gallery.
Sunday 26th May also sees the return of the Chesterfield Artisan Market in the New Square, which has many food and craft treats to try and buy!
More family fun
On Monday 27th May, meet The Big Bubbleman a when visiting Matlock Farm Park. Whether it’s monster bubbles the size of a car, or swirling clouds of smaller bubbles, this is fun for children of all ages! There will also be a giant inflatable slide and inflatable jungle assault course with us to really burn off the children’s energy! Over half term there will be all the usual delights of the farm park – lamb bottle feeding, ferret racing, meerkat talks, wallaby encounter, small animal handling, short pony rides, our super indoor play centre, The Rainforest and more, so don’t miss out!
StraightCurves has something for all the creative children out there! On Tuesday 28th May children can take part in Crafty School, a full day of creative and crafty activities! There is also Kids Dressmaking course running throughout the week for 11-16 year olds with a passion to learn more about dressmaking! On Sunday 2nd June from 4:30pm, there is a Children’s Sewing Club for those aged 8-18.
On Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May, Chesterfield and District Model Engineering Society at Hady Hill invite you to enjoy a fun day out and experience riding a miniature train. Find out more.

Go and explore
This half term, polish your armour and dust off your tiara, it’s time to learn the tools of the trade as you become a knight or princess for the day at Bolsover Castle, where courtly experts will teach you skills in heroic chivalry and eloquent etiquette! You can also watch rival knights compete in the ultimate test of strength and skill at the Knights’ Tournament where arrows will fly, swords will clash and the winner will be decided in the Grand Melee finale. There’s lot to see, learn and do when you visit Chatsworth this half term. As well as the usual daily activities, learn about dry stone walling, wool spinning, shire horses, river creatures and much, much more!
Explore even more of the Chesterfield area by hopping on a Chesterfield canal cruise! There are lots of trips taking place throughout half term from Hollingwood Hub and Tapton Lock. On Wednesday 29th May, you can also book onto a special Evening Fish & Chip cruise from Tapton Lock, starting at 7pm.
