Christmas at Revolution House
See Revolution House decorated for a traditional 17th century Christmas this festive period, alongside greenery, a kissing bough, and colourful flower arrangements, all created by local volunteers.
There are lots of opportunities to enjoy a piece of local history decked out in festive style. Entry to the house and garden is free, however donations to cover costs would be gratefully received.
Carol Concert
You can get into the festive spirit by visiting the Revolution House’s carol concert! Holymoorside Brass Band will play a selection of your favourite carols.
The annual Carol Concert will take place in the garden from 6.30pm.
Because it will be dark when the performance takes place, it is advised that visitors bring a torch with them to the carol service. Due to the bad weather forecast, this event will take place inside Swanwick Memorial Hall which is just across the road from Revolution House. Refreshments will be available from 5.45pm and the concert will start at 6.30pm.
Christmas carol lyric sheets will be available at the event and can also be downloaded from the website.
About Revolution House
The House takes its name from the Revolution of 1688. Three hundred years ago this cottage was an alehouse – the ‘Cock and Pynot’ (pynot is a dialect word for magpie) – and it was here that three local noblemen – the Earl of Devonshire (from nearby Chatsworth), the Earl of Danby and Mr John D’Arcy, met to begin planning their part in events which led to the overthrow of King James II in favour of William and Mary of Orange.
