1. Live music

If live music or a show is your thing, why not make the night before Mother’s Day extra special?

On Saturday, the Winding Wheel Theatre will be hosting The Very Best of Frankie Valli starring Peter Andre, a lively musical tribute featuring Peter Andre and a cast of West End performers bringing the classic hits of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons to life.

Expect all the favourite songs like Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, My Eyes Adored You and Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, delivered with energy, great vocals and a full live band, perfect for a fun night out together before Mother’s Day itself.

2. Dining out

Brunch

Ninety-Four offers a standout brunch menu, with French toast specials their twist on Eggs Benedict – served on a signature potato stack. They now open Friday and Saturday evenings too, offering upmarket sharing plates.

Alternatively, head into our town centre to Bottle & Thyme. This cosy spot serves fresh, seasonal dishes with a creative edge or try their signature Turkish Eggs.

For a more relaxed setting, Sorbo Lounge is colourful, family-friendly, and dog-friendly too. Their Sunshine Brunch puts a fresh spin on all-day brunch favourites, making it an easy choice for a laid-back morning.

Drinks

If you’re planning a drink out, explore our diverse pubs and bars. Start on Chatsworth Road and taste an exclusive range of flavours at Brampton Brewery, where golden ales and dark stouts ensure every sip tells a story of passion and tradition.

For a livelier atmosphere, head further down the road to Junction Bar and sample their signature cocktails, such as the ‘Cherry Bakewell’ and ‘Junction Juice’. Enjoy live performances from local artists on Sundays from 5pm.

Afternoon Tea

Share a special meal with your mum at Ringwood Hall Hotel & Spa, where the former Grand Ballroom will be hosting a Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea.

Enjoy a selection of freshly prepared finger sandwiches, followed by freshly baked scones with jam and clotted cream, a chef’s selection of cakes, and freshly brewed tea or coffee. For an extra £5.00, you can add a glass of Prosecco to make the afternoon feel even more memorable.

Or try the Pomegranate Café at Northern Tea Merchants on Chatsworth Road, a traditional tea-lover’s paradise.

Enjoy freshly brewed teas served with finger sandwiches, delicate scones with clotted cream and homemade jam, and a selection of sweet treats, all in a warm and welcoming setting,  perfect for a relaxed Mother’s Day catch-up.

Sunday Lunch

Treat yourself to a relaxed afternoon at the Red Lion Restaurant, where Mother’s Day Sunday Lunch is served.

Enjoy a delicious three-course menu for £75 per person, with children under 12 at £30. Celebrate Mother’s Day with your loved ones in the scenic surroundings of the Peak District, savouring locally sourced, flavourful food fresh from their own Walton Lodge Farm Estate in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Or visit the Tickled Trout, on the edge of Chesterfield in Barlow, for quality British foodrelaxed dining and an exclusive Sunday menu featuring Sunday dayboat fish, roast pork, beef or ‘a bit of both’.

Closer to town, Casa’s Cocina Restaurant is serving a special Mother’s Day lunch.

Delight in exceptional flavours, freshly prepared and beautifully presented, with a three-course menu for just £50 per person and £22.50 for children under 12.

3. Get outdoors

Celebrate Mother’s Day with a breath of fresh air and some quality time together. Take a relaxed stroll through Queen’s Park, an ideal spot for families, couples, or a catch-up with a friend, or explore Holmebrook Valley Park for open green spaces, sweeping views across town and a peaceful moment by the lake.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, venture a little further into the Peak District to discover a new scenic spot – ideal for creating memories.

Chatsworth Farmyard and Adventure Playground offers a fun family day out too, with friendly animals to meet and spaces to explore together.

Or discover Bolsover Castle for a more thoughtful, quieter Mother’s Day outing. The beautifully preserved 17th-century site has richly decorated rooms, painted ceilings and gardens that inspire a sense of history and charm.

4. Take on a challenge

Assess your communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills together at Chesterfield Escape Room. Challenge yourselves in an immersive setting while sharing laughs and building memories as you work to solve clues and escape within 60 minutes. It is a lively alternative to a traditional Mother’s Day that gives you a chance to bond in a playful way.

The team guides you through a safety briefing and basic techniques before you compete to hit bullseyes in a relaxed but exciting environment. Afterwards, browse collectables and comics, and discover unique custom 3D-printed creations, all while sipping drinks and sharing snacks in this relaxed, late-night setting. 5. Get active together

Add a little adventure to your Mother’s Day with Iron Age Archery. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced archer, enjoy hands-on sessions and games that bring out your competitive side. It is a unique way to spend time together outdoors.

Meet, feed and pet a wide range of friendly farm animals, this Mother’s Day at Matlock Farm Park. Plus, mum goes free with each accompanying paying child ticket, and there are lovely free indoor craft sessions  where children can make something special for their mum or loved one.
