Board & Bean expands into larger town centre venue
Chesterfield board game café Board & Bean is expanding into a larger town centre venue on South Street, creating new opportunities for events, gaming and food experiences.
Expected to be open in early autumn, independent board game café Board & Bean is relocating to larger premises in our town centre as it continues to grow its offer and strengthen its presence within the town’s thriving independent business community.
The business is moving into the former Green Room site at 21 South Street, just across the road from their current home. The move will provide significantly more space for customers, allowing the café to expand its programme of events, increase gaming capacity and introduce an enhanced food and drink offering.
The move brings Board & Bean into a more prominent position within the South Street and Falcon Yard area. Alongside other independent shops, cafés and visitor experiences.
Drew Yates, co-owner of Board & Bean, said:
“The new location brings us that bit closer to the heart of town. ‘Across the road’ might not sound like much, but it brings us nearer to the action, gives us more visibility, and puts us nearby all the other wonderful shops and cafes around the South Street / Falcon Yard area. The premise itself also offers us a greater amount of space to be able to do more with!”
The additional space will allow Board & Bean to introduce more flexible event areas and private spaces, as well as expand its food offering.
A new kitchen will support an expanded menu, including a new breakfast menu, while the business is also planning to introduce new events in the future.
Plans include screenings of classic films and potential live music performances, alongside Board & Bean’s existing programme of board game activities.
The café offers games for a range of ages and experience levels, from casual games for families and groups to more challenging options for regular players and games designed for solo play.
The team also helps customers choose games to suit their group, making the venue accessible to people who may be new to board gaming as well as regular players.
The move has received a positive response from local customers, with many recognising the new premises from its previous use as The Green Room.
Board & Bean has also become part of Chesterfield’s growing community of independent businesses and specialist venues, longside specialist retailers, bookshops, entertainment venues and hospitality businesses, organisations such as Geeks HQ and CRIT are helping attract visitors and create new experiences within our town centre.
The town’s existing gaming and independent business community has helped make Chesterfield a natural home for the business.
Looking ahead, the larger premises will give Board & Bean greater flexibility to develop its activities and events.
Drew added:
“Just being able to do more, the extra flexibility the new space gives us should allow us to make our offering more interesting for more people, so we look forward to being able to line up a range of new exciting events in time!”
The move marks the latest stage of growth for Board & Bean and adds to the variety of independent businesses helping to bring new experiences to Chesterfield town centre.
