Business Support

Chesterfield Digital High Street

Increase footfall to your business with the help of Chesterfield Digital High Street

Attract new customers – in-person and online

Purchasing habits have changed as a result of Covid-19, with fewer in-store visitors and a move towards online transactions. The shift to online is expected to be long-term; so how can you make sure the trend presents an opportunity, and not a threat, to your business?

Help is at hand from Chesterfield Digital High Street.

The project is funded by Chesterfield Borough Council, and delivered in partnership with East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire). It is designed to help your business implement modern forms of online trading that complement, rather than replace, your high street presence.

Support is available to 120 eligible retail, hospitality, and leisure businesses across the town, with 50 of those businesses being offered a fully search engine optimised e-commerce website.

FAQs

I already have a website. Can you still help me?

Certainly! If your website is not already equipped with e-commerce capabilities (e.g. the latest forms of payment, and concepts such as Click and Collect), you may qualify for 100% funding towards a fully search engine optimised e-commerce website. (You would retain your existing URL.)

If your website already has e-commerce capabilities, you can still take advantage of the other benefits of the project, including dedicated support from a Digital High Street Business Adviser, one year’s free Chamber membership, and access to events and training.

What is the cost of creating a new website for my business?

The cost to create your new, fully search engine optimised e-commerce website is covered in full, along with 12 months of web hosting. If you wish to continue the Shopify hosting thereafter, the cost is approximately £250 per year. There is also a small transaction fee of around 2%.

How do you define a ‘high street’ business?

Any business that leases and pays rent on a bricks and mortar presence in a high street location. Support is not exclusive to Chesterfield town centre, and can benefit businesses on other high streets including, but not limited to, Chatsworth Road, Whittington Moor, and in Newbold and Hasland villages.

I’m a market trader. Do I qualify?

If you’re economically active in Chesterfield (in other words, you live in and have run your business from a Chesterfield market for a number of years), we’d be interested in talking to you about the support on offer.

How much time do I need to dedicate to this project?

It is entirely your choice, and depends on how much time you wish to commit to meeting with your Digital High Street Business Adviser and to the recommended marketing activities.

I’m a franchise. Do I qualify?

No. Support is only available to independent businesses.
