Made in Chesterfield

About Made in Chesterfield

Made in Chesterfield is organised by Destination Chesterfield and Direct Education Business Partnership and sponsored by the Chesterfield College Group, and is designed to bring together businesses, schools and training providers to showcase the sector to future school leavers.

Since Made in Chesterfield was established, more than 3,500 young people from schools have spent time in the area’s manufacturing and engineering businesses. Chesterfield College, have seen an increase in the number of students getting involved in STEM related subjects since the initiative was launched.

The visits to businesses operating within the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) sector are organised by Direct Education Business Partnership.

Made in Chesterfield is also supported by United Cast Bar Ltd and Natwest Bank who were pivotal in establishing the project with Destination Chesterfield.

Made in Chesterfield was launched in 2014 and was initially a month long festival which took place every November.  In November 2018, following the ongoing success and to open the opportunities up to more business and young people the festival has become a rolling programme of activity.

In 2019 the project was a finalist in the Education Business Partnership Category at the Derbyshire Business Awards organised by East Midlands Chamber.

Made in Chesterfield is a key strand of activity in the Chesterfield Borough Council Skills Plan.

In 2020 in response to the coronavirus outbreak the My Future Virtual Careers Platform was suggested by the steering group to keep support going and was developed and launched by Chesterfield Borough Council in partnership with the North Derbyshire Careers Hub and Destination Chesterfield.
