Derbyshire Community Forest Project

Communities and landowners in Chesterfield have an opportunity to bring more nature and green space to our area with the Derbyshire Heartwood Community Forest project.

If you want to introduce more greenery to your land, a public space, add shade to a park or grow trees in your school grounds, find out more at An Introduction To Derbyshire’s Heartwood Community Forest – a free online meeting on Tuesday 25th February.

What is the project?

Derbyshire County Council is looking for landowners and communities to take part in the Derbyshire Heartwood Community Forest project that’s ongoing along the eastern fringe of Derbyshire.

Rather than a single forest, Heartwood Community Forest is a collection of trees, woodlands, and hedgerows across Derbyshire and will be linking a network of 15 existing community forests.

Some of the areas included in the community forest include:

Chesterfield – Birdholme, Boythorpe, Brampton, Brimington, Chesterfield, Loundsley Green and Newbold, Staveley, Whittington

Bolsover – Barlborough, Clowne, Bolsover, Shirebrook, Pleasley, South Normanton, Pinxton, Tibshelf, Glapwell
North East Derbyshire – Aston, Clay Cross, Dronfield, Eckington and Killamarsh, Sutton, Wingerworth, Shirland

What will feature

The project begins with a free online meeting: An Introduction to Derbyshire’s Heartwood Community Forest. The project team will explain how landowners and communities can aid this project as well as the benefits it offers in return.

Landowners:

  • How tree planting can help you benefit from one of the most competitive, hassle-free grant schemes.

Farmers:

  • How tree planting can give your livestock more shelter and prevent soil erosion.

Communities:

  • The grants available for communities, schools, parishes, and town councils.

How to join
