Smart and Inclusive Leadership courses- University of Derby

Microsoft Power BI vs. Google Data Studio Chesterfield course

This brand new leadership and management programme is fully funded, meaning it is offered without any cost to your organisation. This is possible thanks to funding from the European Social Fund and the delivery partners, which include University of Derby, Nottingham Trent University, Derby College, Nottingham College, East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, Enable, and the Workers’ Educational Association.

The programme has been designed in conjunction with local businesses, to provide a course that will help develop the contemporary leadership and management skills that will drive productivity and growth within your organisation.

The programme is offered online, enabling your staff to update their knowledge in an easily accessible and convenient way, even when working from home. Furloughed staff can also undertake training.

What does it cover?

The programme will help you identify and develop your own leadership style, building on your existing skills and strengths. You will cover a range of different approaches including:

  • Leadership and culture.
  • Managing in difficult circumstances.
  • Building key relationships (internal and external).
  • Staff engagement and developing high performing teams.
  • Effective communication skills and creative problem solving during difficult times.

Who is SAIL for?

SAIL is for aspiring future leaders, employees in supervisory and management positions as well as recent graduates. It doesn’t matter if you are new to management or an experienced manager looking to update your skillset. The programme can also be an excellent gateway to formal qualifications.

Learning outcomes

Unit one focuses on strategies to develop your individual leadership skills, where you will:

  • Learn the difference between leadership and management.
  • Discover your own unique leadership qualities and how to use these qualities to create positive impact within your organisation.
  • Learn how to develop resilience both in yourself and in others.
  • Explore future career options available to you.

Unit two introduces you to tools you can use to lead and solve problems during times of uncertainty, challenge and change. In unit three you will discover the areas that need to be considered to ensure you are an inclusive leader.

Should you wish to continue developing your leadership skills, you will also have the opportunity to explore and develop your approach to coaching and mentoring others.

How will I learn?

We recognise the need for flexibility when balancing learning alongside work. As such, the programme has been designed to allow you to tailor your learning to your individual needs. There are three taught units, each taking place over two days and you can decide whether to take a one or two units, or participate in the complete programme.

There will be a blend of online learning methods including live webinars, self-paced study and peer group discussions. All activities and sessions are designed to offer you insight and new ways of working, which you can apply directly to your work role and your personal development. There will also be an opportunity for coaching and mentoring to support your career development.
