Barrow Hill Memorial Hall
The refurbishment of Barrow Hill Memorial Hall has now been completed, creating a modern community hub with enhanced facilities for local residents.
The hall officially reopened on Saturday, 22nd August 2026.
The refurbished hall features a community pantry, bar and café, family hub, physical activity space and health hub, providing residents with opportunities to access support services, socialise and stay active.
Originally built as a workmen’s hall in 1863, the refurbishment has been led by Barrow Hill Community Trust with funding from the Staveley Town Deal and East Midlands Combined County Authority, among others.
Funding through the Staveley Town Deal has supported the creation of the new health hub and social space, alongside improvements to the building, including the roof, heating and electrical systems. These upgrades will support future phases of development.
East Midlands Combined County Authority funding has also been used to create the family hub and physical activity space, as well as providing match funding to support further bids to refurbish the first floor.
Further phases of the project are planned, focusing on the first floor to create a reading room and community venue.
Barrow Hill Memorial Hall is owned and managed by the Trustees of Barrow Hill Community Trust on behalf of the community.
The Trust has owned the hall since 1924, when Charles Paxton Markham gave the Workmen’s Hall at Barrow Hill to the community as a war memorial.
The hall’s refurbishment forms part of wider investment in Staveley and the surrounding area through the Staveley Town Deal.
