The Moorings – Staveley Canal Basin
The Moorings is a project which is helping to revitalise the Staveley Canal Basin, bringing new office, retail and leisure space to the site. Construction was completed in Spring 2025.
Funding totalling £2.664 million from the Staveley Town Deal enabled Derbyshire County Council to construct the new mixed-use development as part of the first phase of the project.
The Moorings forms part of the wider Staveley Town Deal regeneration programme.
The two-storey building has 11 new business units, equipped with kitchen and restroom facilities, offering flexible space for new and existing small businesses across office, retail and leisure uses.
Five businesses have now moved into new premises at The Moorings, including 86 Degrees, HappyWired, Little Loving Care, Twenty Two Eleven VIP and Optima Consumer Finance.
Two of the ground-floor retail units, including the restaurant and bistro overlooking the canal basin, are already under offer, with a small number of retail and office spaces still available.
The development also includes indoor and outdoor dining space overlooking the canal basin, along with a new access road and footpath along Hall Lane. These improvements provide better access to the canal and encourage more people to enjoy walking, cycling and boating along the waterway.
The Moorings is expected to create between 40 and 60 jobs while strengthening Staveley’s position as a destination for business, leisure and visitors.
The development forms part of the wider regeneration taking place through the Staveley Town Deal, creating new opportunities for businesses, supporting employment and encouraging further investment in the area.
Enhancing the visitor experience around the canal will make it even more attractive to walkers and cyclists. The regeneration of this area will leave a lasting legacy for future generations and ensure that Staveley is a place where people can start, stay and grow.
