Pace bowler Will Davis and all-rounder Rob Hemmings have signed new two-year contracts with Derbyshire County Cricket Club, committing them both to the Club until the end of the 2018 season.

Davis made three four-day appearances this summer claiming 14 wickets at an average of 30, including best figures of 7-146 – the best figures by a Derbyshire bowler this year and the second youngest ever to claim seven in an innings for the county.

Hemmings featured in one first-class fixture this year, making his debut versus Worcestershire in June. The 20-year-old has also impressed for the Second XI this summer, earning him his first professional deal.

“Will and Rob are promising young players who have both impressed with the first team after making their debuts this summer.

“Will has bowled very well and produced some standout performances since making his way into the side in June. He’s bowled with good pace and is an exciting prospect.

“He and Rob will now both benefit greatly from another winter working full time with the first team as they continue their developments.

“We have a good group of talented young players who continue to learn and improve. We hope Will and Rob will be part of a crop of youngsters who will stand up and help contribute regularly to winning games for Derbyshire for years to come.”

Inspired by the Olympic Games workers across Derbyshire are being encouraged to get in the spirit of the Games and sign up for a sporting challenge with a difference this September.

‘Shake Up September’ is a national activity logging challenge run by Workplace Challenge, and is encouraging employees to try out as many Olympic or Paralympic sports as possible throughout the month.

Sports range from archery, badminton, basketball and boccia, to volleyball and wheelchair sports such as tennis and rugby.

Inspired by Team GB, workers are being urged to try at least five different sports throughout ‘Shake Up September’, and a special bingo card will be available to download from the Workplace Challenge website from September 1 so that staff can mark down each sport which they have taken part in.

A national leaderboard and a Derbyshire leaderboard will also be running for the duration of the challenge, with participants able to earn points for themselves and their workplace for each activity they log via the Workplace Challenge website or mobile app.

Participants can also share photos of themselves trying out different sports using the hashtag #ShakeUp2016 on social media.

Local prizes will include a team building package at Mount Cook Adventure Centre in Middleton-by-Wirksworth, a skiing taster session at Swadlincote Ski & Snowboard Centre, and a £25 Central Health voucher which can be used for any treatment at Central Physio, Central FootClinic or Central Osteopaths.

According to Public Health England, adults spend up to 60% of our waking hours at work and an estimated 40 per cent of people do not exercise enough. To help combat the issue, Workplace Challenge, which is run by the County Sports Partnership Network and managed locally by Derbyshire Sport, seeks to inspire businesses and encourage workers to get active in and around the working day.

Rachael Dyer, Sport Development Officer at Derbyshire Sport, said: “Research shows not enough people are exercising and for many of us, the biggest barrier is time. We want to help local businesses to encourage their workers to bring physical activity into and around the working day, and Shake Up September is designed to do just that.

“With the Olympic Games  there is no better time to get involved and we’ll be showcasing different sports throughout September to get people in the spirit.

“We’re urging workers across the region to make the most of their lunch break, take on the challenge and try out some new sports. You can even go for gold yourself because the more activities you log the higher you will get up our the leaderboards.”

Each day throughout September, Workplace Challenge will be showcasing a different Olympic or Paralympic sport on social media, demonstrating how workers can get away from the desk or leave the factory floor or in search of sport.

Organised jointly by the Rotary Clubs of Chesterfield, Chesterfield Scarsdale, Clay Cross, and Matlock, the event held on Sunday 24 July 2016 provided a unique showcase for an amazing variety of over 700 classic cars and bikes brought by their proud owners from all over the region.

Best Bike was adjudged to be a rare 1960 Bristol 406 with 2.2 straight six triple colex carbs owned by David Mann from Sheffield.  Best Bike was adjudged to be an immaculate 1971 Honda K3 Series CL 350cc Street Scrambler owned by Bill Rimmer from North Wingfield.

Eric McCarrison, chairman of the organising committee, said “Over the last six years Rotary has raised getting on for £75,000 for local charities with this popular family event and we want to thank everyone for their continued support, and a big thanks go to all our sponsors, including main sponsor Autoworld.”

Perez travels to Snetterton this weekend for his next attack in the Simpson Race Products Ginetta Junior Championship.

After a six week Summer break the ever popular race series that supports the British Touring Car Championship is back in Norfolk and Perez hopes to continue where he left off after the twelve opening races of the season

He has had a well earn’t break and holiday but has been back on track in practice and ready for this coming weekend, as well as keeping fit and analysing his data and viewing footage from his previous races.

Last week saw him practising at Snetterton for the second time in a month showing what his JHR Developments Ginetta G40 race car was made of with some fantastic times, only a few weeks ago he was second fastest in the morning session at the circuit.

Perez’s first half of the season has seen a mixture of highs and lows. He has been placed well in mid field in most races for the season so far.

It all started in April at Brands Hatch with a disappointing two opening races for Perez due to brake and engine problems, finishing 11th and 10th, he moved to Donington Park a couple of weeks later that saw him retired after being punted off track in the second race finishing 11th in race one and 16th in race 3.

He moved onto Thruxton in Hampshire at the beginning of May where Seb outrun every other driver on the circuit in qualifying, taking fastest lap and to take his maiden pole position in the championship by one thousandth of a second. Things didn’t go to plan in race one getting blacked flagged and an 18th position finish and did not finish race two after retiring after a shunt.

After a month’s break Oulton Park in Cheshire was the next stop for Perez and after race one he commented ” this was my best race I have ever driven” he finished fourth just missing out on the podium, race two he finished 12th.
Before the summer break, 6 weeks ago Perez was in the driving seat again at Croft Circuit North Yorkshire where he competed in three races in the series, only the second 3 race weekend of the season to date and always a challenge both to car and driver.
Qualifying went well with a first lap flyer only to get a time disallowed on lap 3 for exceeding track limits before returning to pole for 4 laps. finishing in 4th position on 1:40.159s and a top speed of 76.37mph.

Seb commented “the car ran well, this is the only second weekend with 3 races and is always more demanding”

A second row place was reserved for Seb in race one and once the lights went out he had a good start but by turn two the grid got closed up after Wooder and Tregurtha made contact with each other, Perez battled to tenth but got spun on lap 6 and got knocked back to 18th position in the field where he finished the race.
Race two saw him line up in 18th on the grid and take the chequered flag after 8 laps in 11th position.

After the race Perez said ” I am happy with the result, the car was faultless Croft is a technical circuit and need to push the car and think about position, an extra race can be used to advantage”
Race three saw Seb on 6th row alongside Enzo Fittipaldi, the 14 year old grandson of famous F1 driver Emerson. again a great start where he pushed up to fourth only to loose out on a few places and finish a very respectable 7th place.

He commented ” The weekend has gone well, there was a tyre wear issue and we made the most of the moment” he added ” JHR Developments have done a great job with the car”
He added “I’m looking forward to getting to Snetterton, it’s a special circuit to me it was where I got my first ever podium in the Winter Series two years ago”

With five rounds to go Perez comes to Snetterton in 16th position with 94 points and his team JHR Developments who run 7 cars in Championship are in third place with 458 points.

Chesterfield played host to judges from the East Midlands in Bloom committee to judge the borough’s entry into the regional competition.

Chesterfield in Bloom is a community project, led by volunteers working with Chesterfield Borough Council to make continual improvements to the borough’s environment.

As part of the tour on Friday 15 July, the judges visited some of Chesterfield’s parks and green spaces, including the Green Flag award winning parks at Queen’s Park, Eastwood Park and the grounds of Chesterfield and District Crematorium.

They also met volunteers and residents who have entered the Chesterfield in Bloom ‘Best Kept Garden’ competition.

Peter Benham, East Midlands in Bloom judge, said:-

“I’ve been in Chesterfield three times judging and this time and I pleased to say that there is a nice Bloom committee and it’s great that the community is working together to help improve the look of Chesterfield.”

Chesterfield won a silver-gilt award in last year’s East Midlands in Bloom competition.

The results of this year’s awards will be announced in September.
