What to expect

Launched in 2023 to celebrate 30 years of the Bolsover Lantern Parade, Bright Winter Nights is now a must-do event on the seasonal calendar.

An immersive light experience organised by Junction Arts, Bright Winter Nights takes place within the walls of Bolsover Castle. Transforming the town’s iconic landmark with spectacular light installations, projections, soundscapes and interactive artworks, the display takes place across two magical evenings.

Each year, the event brings a brand new collection of artworks to the castle, celebrating local creativity while bringing the community together. For 2026, the theme is “Speak My Voice”, with every artwork co-created alongside community groups from Bolsover. Working with professional artists, local people are helping to shape the installations and tell their own stories, with the perspectives and voices taking centre stage.

With all of this year’s installations being newly created for Bright Winter Nights 2026, the programme will feature 50 stories as a special project to celebrate Junction Arts’ 50th birthday. The piece will bring together stories from people who have shaped, and been shaped by, the charity over the past five decades.

How to attend

Bright Winter Nights will take place on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th November, with various sessions from 4.30pm to 7.30pm, including a dedicated quiet session from 4:30pm to 5:00pm. Tickets cost £3 for adults and £2 for children, with free entry for children under five years old.
