Celebrate VE Day 75 at home with Dronfield Arts Festival

Keep calm and join in celebrating VE Day 75 with your very own themed party from home! Even though the VE Day 75 event will no longer be taking place, you can still get involved and show us your wartime spirit by throwing a special celebratory party.

Visit the Festival website here for more information

The festival organisers have put together some ideas to get you started:

Decorate your home & garden

Get creative and decorate your house and garden in red, white, and blue, while keeping the kids busy creating 40s themed posters to stick on doors and windows.

Download the free colouring book here.

This free printable bunting template is perfect for trimming up and creating a real vintage feel.

Have a vintage picnic

Bring out your recipe books and bake for victory! Teach the kids how to make party classics like Victoria sponge, sausage rolls and carrot cake. You could even hold your own Home Front Bake Off!

If you’re feeling brave, why not try these genuine wartime recipes from The 1940s Experiment.

Paint VE Day 75 rocks

Children can cheer up friends and neighbours by painting and leaving special VE Day or 1940s themed rocks dotted around the village – it’s guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face as they go on their daily walks or essential journeys!

Remember

Dig out your 40s wartime memorabilia and share stories of family members who took part in the war or even celebrated the original VE Day. Teach your children or grandchildren what it was like to live in wartime Britain and encourage them to have a go at making gas masks, ration books and keeping a wartime diary.

Have a vintage sing-along

Ramp up the nostalgia with a vintage sing-along to classic 40s artists in our virtual entertainment programme! We have some fabulous acts lined up including swing and vintage singer, Jayne Darling, female harmony group, La-Di-Dah and jazz vocalist, Sarah Eastwood.

We would love to see you singing and dancing along, so if you can, post online to help boost morale!

Get virtual

Look out for virtual links in the upcoming weeks and on Friday 8th May, to watch 40s themed entertainment during the day. The History Van have kindly put together a range of online activities for children to take part in like code breaking, making party hats, designing medals and much more which you can find on their Facebook page here – www.facebook.com/thehistoryvan

Share and tag

Remember to share pictures and videos of your decorations and patriotic parties in full swing on social media and tag in @DronfieldArtsFestival so they can all celebrate with you!
