Forthcoming Events

Year of outdoors events- Chesterfield Borough Council

A selection of events taking place this May, organised by Chesterfield Borough Council as part of the Year of Outdoors. You will need to book your place to attend these events:

Family Nature Quest – Saturday 22 May

1pm – The Family Nature Quest is expected to last 30 minutes to one hour.

Join us for a journey of discovery in Tapton Park. All ages will enjoy this exploration game which reveals the hidden treasures of nature in the park. Families will be given the tools to go on their own nature quest and encouraged to use their senses to connect with nature.

Please bring clothing and footwear appropriate for the season (it is May, so this probably means a sun cream and a woolly hat). If it’s a nice day you could bring a picnic and make a full afternoon of it.

This event is suitable for families of all ages. The ground is uneven and there are some steps and slopes. The activity is self-guided, so once you’ve got your pack you can go and explore as far as you like. The group size will be limited, and the session will follow social distancing guidelines. Where possible, please wear a face covering when talking to our team members.

Meet at the entrance to the Peace Gardens from the car park.

To book a place email wendy.blunt@chesterfield.gov.uk or call 01246 959657.

Mindful Walk – Sunday 23 May

Meet at 10am

Being outdoors is more than just exploring new places and looking after your physical health. The outdoors is well known to be a great place to improve your mental wellbeing too.

Mindfulness is the practice of meditating to be in the present moment and meditating outside is an easy way to disconnect from life pressures and centre yourself here and now.

Join our qualified mindfulness guide for a guided meditation and a gentle walk in the park.

We will be spending time moving slowly or being still outside. Please bring clothing and footwear appropriate for the season (it is May, so this probably means a sun cream and a woolly hat).

This event is suitable for adults with an interest in mindful meditation and nature. No previous experience necessary. The group size will be limited and the session will follow social distancing guidelines.

The ground is uneven and there are some steps and slopes. Meet at the entrance to the Peace Gardens from the car park.

To book a place email wendy.blunt@chesterfield.gov.uk or call 01246 959657.

Treat yourself to the perfect antidote to the stress and anxiety caused by this year of lockdown. This traditional Japanese practice is gentle, meditative and restorative. Come along and let the trees give you a hug!

Please meet Donna and Natalie at the gate at the bottom of Westwood Lane, down the side of Corner Cutz hair salon, off Manor Road, Brimington Common.
