The partnership between Arvato UK and Chesterfield Borough Council has been shortlisted for the Large Employer of the Year category at the North Midlands and South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards.
The awards, which will take place at the Showroom Workstation in Sheffield on Thursday 15th May, recognise the hard work and success of the region’s apprentices and the businesses that employ them.
The Chesterfield apprentice scheme is one of several apprenticeship programmes which Arvato operate across their local government partnerships. The schemes ensure that the right talent is developed to help their public sector partners tackle the skills challenges they will face in the years ahead.
More than 70 young people have completed their apprenticeship programme in Chesterfield since 2010, which consists of a 12 or 18-month NVQ level two qualification in business administration, customer service and ICT and a range of vocational placements across the partnership.
Apprenticeships in Chesterfield are an excellent way of gaining qualifications whilst getting real life work experience and being paid for it – what better place to become an apprentice or find an apprentice than the UK’s first Apprentice Town.
Arvato are also part of the Chesterfield Apprenticeship Ambassador Network, which helps raise awareness of Apprenticeships and increase apprenticeship participation in Chesterfield. By becoming an Apprenticeship Ambassador, businesses are helping to promote Chesterfield as an Apprentice Town and raising awareness of apprenticeships and their benefits to strengthen the workforce of the local economy. Other local Apprenticeship Ambassadors include Ashgate Hospicecare, In the Works PR, Stephenson’s Tea & Coffee House, Ferdinand Bilstein and UKATA.
On average, 70 per cent of their trainees go on to full-time roles with the business, with a further two-thirds being promoted within 12 months. Their apprentice retention rate across the UK is 47 per cent, which far exceeds the national average of 23 per cent.
Peter Schriewersmann, Key Account Director, CRM Solutions, Arvato UK & Ireland, commented:-
“We take training our apprentices very seriously and believe it’s essential to give the next generation of talent the practical experience they need to grow professionally.
“Being shortlisted for this award is testament to the hard work of all our apprentices and their managers in Chesterfield. Recruiting young people and preparing them for the world of work is just one of the ways we give back to the communities we operate in.”
