Chesterfield Great Historic Pub Tour
Chesterfield’s Brampton Mile has been a famous rite of passage and the source of many madcap stories for as long as anyone can remember. It used to be a formidable challenge. But, having lost many of the pubs over the years, these days it’s much more achievable!
The tours are led by Martin Alvey and Shaun Stevenson. Starting at The Star on Chatsworth Road, the Brampton Mile Pub Crawl includes some fascinating history of the long lost and still remaining pubs, colourful landlords, extraordinary events and local industries. It’s a fabulous afternoon’s entertainment, whether you enjoy a tipple or stay sober!
Do I have to have a drink in every pub?
Definitely not, you don’t even have to visit every pub. Pubs are grouped into clusters of two or three pubs and you will have 30 minutes or a full hour to have a drink in one, two or all three. At each cluster of pubs, there will be a departure time and place. Martin will ring his bell to let you know it’s time to go! There is a total of 19 places to get a drink – 14 pubs, 1 brewery, 1 microbrewery and 3 restaurant bars.
Why should I do the Brampton Mile with Great Historic Pub Tours and not just go on my own?
On the 6th May 1954, Roger Bannister was the first man to break the four-minute mile. He only achieved the record by using three of his running colleagues as pacemakers. The point is without someone telling you to drink up and move on to the next pub, the chances of making the full distance are slim. Obviously you can bail out at any time. But, you will surely want to get your money’s worth and you be motivated by everyone else on the tour. Plus there’s all that interesting history to hear about!
