Beat the Street Chesterfield

Beat the Street Chesterfield have made the following announcement:

The UK Government announced further restrictions in order to control the spread of COVID 19. Because of this, we are closing Beat the Street at 10pm Monday 23 March 2020. Points are being counted and the winners of the game will be announced soon.

Beat the Street is a fun, free initiative that will see Chesterfield transformed into a giant game between Wednesday 26th February and Wednesday 8th April! There are great challenges to enjoy and prizes up for grabs.

The idea is to get people active and to improve air quality by walking, scooting, running and cycling around the local area in return for points and prizes.

Chesterfield residents are also encouraged to enter workplaces, community groups and sports groups into the game. Alternatively, players are invited to join one of the three chosen charity teams; Age Concern Chesterfield and District; Community Transformation for Cosy Hub and Fairplay.

Aim of the game

Earn as many points as possible for you and your team by walking, running or cycling between Beat Boxes across Chesterfield. More than 120 beeping and flashing sensors called Beat Boxes will be placed on lampposts around the area for the duration of the game.

These can be tapped by players with contactless cards or key fobs in return for points for their school or workplace. Over the course of the six-week competition, the top scoring schools and workplaces could vouchers for sports equipment or books and there are ‘lucky tap’ prizes given out to individuals during the game.

Set Up

Children aged under 11 play with a Beat the Street fob, which they will receive from their school. Anyone aged 12 and above plays with a Beat the Street card.

The game in Chesterfield runs from 00:01am on Wednesday 26th February 2020 until 7:00pm on Wednesday 8th April 2020.

Playing the game

  1. Find Beat Boxes nearest to you on the map.
  2. Tap the Beat Box with your card until it beeps and flashes.
  3. Walk, cycle, run or scoot to a different Beat Box within an hour.
  4. Tap the Beat Box with your card and fob until it beeps and flashes to score 10 points.
  5. Now carry on your journey and score more points for each extra Beat Box you tap.
