The merger brings ten new colleagues into Redbrik’s team, strengthening both the sales and lettings departments. Andrew Terry has also joined the board of directors at Redbrik and will lead the commercial side of the business. Ian Robinson promoted as Shorts expands corporate team

SMH Group advises on the management buyout of HP Construction Ltd

SMH Group acted as lead adviser on the successful management buyout (MBO) of HP Construction Ltd, securing the company’s future and supporting its next phase of growth.

Based in South Yorkshire, HP Construction delivers civil engineering and infrastructure projects nationwide across industrial, commercial, and motor retail sectors.

The deal sees Nick Gillott, Darren Bocking and Amanda Hayes acquire the company from outgoing co-managing directors David Hutchison and Richard Powell, who have led the business for many years.

Ross Jordan, Partner at SMH Group, guided the transaction from planning to completion. Senior Tax Manager Brian Rodger provided specialist advice to ensure the structure was tax-efficient.

Central Technology announces landmark IT collaboration

Chesterfield-based Central Technology (CT) has announced a five-year IT partnership with Claims Consortium Group (CCG) to boost digital capability and resilience across the business.

The deal will see CT deliver tailored IT solutions, including upgraded infrastructure, cloud migration planning, and integrated security measures such as ransomware detection, web filtering and vulnerability testing. These improvements aim to support CCG’s growth and reinforce its leadership in the insurance claims sector.

As part of the agreement, CCG will adopt CT’s Gold Managed IT Support Package, providing 24/7 access to a dedicated service desk and on-site engineering at its Taunton headquarters. Legacy systems will be maintained while CT manages CCG’s Azure environment, optimising performance, stability and cost.

To meet the expanded workload, CT plans to double the size of its Southwest office. Existing CCG support staff will transfer into CT under TUPE, ensuring continuity and smooth integration into CT’s wider team.

The partnership underlines CCG’s commitment to digital transformation without disrupting operations. With CT’s support, the firm is set to scale IT capability, reduce risk and enhance service delivery across its business.


Peak Edge Hotel bucks UK hospitality trend with strong year of growth

Peak Edge, a 4-star family-owned countryside retreat on the edge of the Peak District. The hotel has reported strong year-on-year growth across all areas of its business.

Between October 2024 and July 2025, the hotel recorded:

  • +15% net revenue in beverages at The Red Lion Restaurant & Bar

  • +9% net revenue in food

  • +26% venue-hire revenue from weddings and events

  • +9.4% accommodation net revenue

Managing Director Mark Thurman said: “The wider UK hospitality sector has faced rising costs and softer consumer spending. One of our Chesterfield champions took home recognition at the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Apprenticeship Awards, held at The Village Hotel, Nottingham.

Phil Bramley, National World Group Editor for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, welcomed guests and highlighted “What makes apprentices unique is that they stand confidently in two different worlds — education and work — and in doing so, they are leading the way for businesses and building great careers for themselves. They’re showing us all that apprentices can rise to the very top, drive innovation, and strengthen our local economy.”

The event also supported the charity Base 51, which provides counselling, outreach, and safe spaces for vulnerable young people. A raffle raised £1,422.60 to aid their vital work.

Natalie Burkinshaw, Founder and Creative Director of Chesterfield design agency CRUSH, has been awarded Best Businesswoman of the Year in the Creative Sector at the 2025 Best Businesswomen Awards.

The awards celebrate outstanding female-led businesses from across the UK, recognising excellence, drive and entrepreneurial success.

CMP Legal celebrate double ‘Team of the Year’ success

CMP Legal is celebrating a remarkable year after winning two Team of the Year awards at major regional ceremonies.

The firm was crowned Team of the Year at the Enterprising Women Awards 2025. The award recognised its leadership, collaboration and contribution to the East Midlands business community. Hosted by ITV presenter Emma Jesson, the event at Winstanley House in Leicestershire celebrated innovation and success across 10 categories.

DBCP celebrates success at LABC East Midlands Awards

The leading provider of building control services in Derbyshire and Staffordshire Moorlands, DBCP, is celebrating after a standout performance at the 2025 LABC East Midlands Building Excellence Awards.

Apprentice Harvey Ellis was named LABC Newcomer of the Year, marking the second year in a row a DBCP apprentice has taken the title. Harvey, part of the LABC Academy, said the award was a “fantastic feeling” and credited his team for their support.

DBCP’s Building Control Manager, David Pratt, praised the achievement as proof of the strength of DBCP’s apprenticeship programme and culture of excellence.

DBCP also saw four supported projects and a construction professional recognised:

Derbyshire and East Midlands showcased at World Travel Market 2025

Visit Peak District & Derbyshire and Visit Nottinghamshire will proudly exhibit together at World Travel Market (WTM) London 2025 in a dynamic partnership supported by East Midlands Airport. The collaboration aims to position the East Midlands as a world-class visitor destination.

Together, the organisations will showcase the region’s diverse tourism offer on a global stage. Moreover, this joint approach highlights the strength of regional partnerships and promotes the East Midlands to international audiences.

By joining forces, the two Local Visitor Economy Partnerships (LVEPs) aim to showcase the strengths of both counties. Specifically, Derbyshire offers stunning landscapes and rich heritage, while Nottinghamshire boasts legendary stories and a vibrant city life.

The team will be based on the UKinbound stand. It is one of the busiest and most high-profile areas at World Travel Market. From this location, they can showcase the region’s unique tourism experiences. These will be presented to international buyers, tour operators, and global media.

According to the latest 2024 STEAM (Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor) figures:

  • Derbyshire’s visitor economy was worth £3.58 billion, supporting over 33,000 jobs.

  • Nottinghamshire’s tourism sector generated £2.53 billion and supported more than 22,500 jobs.

These figures highlight tourism’s vital contribution to the East Midlands economy. Therefore, continued investment in its growth is essential.

This joint presence at WTM supports the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) in driving inclusive growth, creating skilled jobs, and fostering sustainable economic development. In particular, tourism is a key growth sector for EMCCA, with international promotion helping attract high-value visitors and increase overnight stays.

East Midlands Airport, the official sponsor of this partnership, plays a key role in providing international access to the region. Additionally, the airport is strengthening its role as a major gateway to the East Midlands through future growth plans and new direct routes.

Attend the next recruitment event

Local people looking for work are encouraged to attend the upcoming recruitment event at Chesterfield Town Hall on 21 and 22 October.

The two-day event offers the opportunity to engage with employers from a wide range of sectors. Attendees can discover how local organisations recruit and what they look for in new employees.

On Tuesday, 21 October, from 1pm to 4pm, visitors can meet directly with employers. They’ll gain insight into recruitment processes and learn how to strengthen applications and interview performance.

The second day, Wednesday, 22 October, from 9am to 12pm, will feature employer-led workshops focusing on recruitment and career pathways. These sessions will provide more detailed information about available roles and offer participants the opportunity to apply for current vacancies.

Both days of the event are free to attend, and anyone looking for work are welcome to drop in – no booking is required. People interested in the workshops on the second day are encouraged to attend the first day. This gives them a chance to meet employers, learn about available opportunities, and book a place.

A range of employers will be represented, including organisations from the public sector, care sector, and beyond. Employers attending include Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Derbyshire Constabulary, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, East Midlands Ambulance Service, East Midlands Combined County Authority, and several social care providers.

Businesses across Chesterfield and North Derbyshire have been successfully shortlisted for the 2026 Peak District, Derbyshire & Derby Tourism Awards.

The awards celebrate the best of the area’s thriving £3.58bn visitor economy and shine a spotlight on the region’s talented tourism businesses.

North Derbyshire nominees include Peak Edge Hotel, Wild & Other, The Tickled Trout, Hackney House Café and Deli, and Red Lion Restaurant.

Following a record number of entries, finalists have been revealed across 17 award categories, recognising excellence across hotels, B&Bs, attractions, pubs, cafés, and unique experiences. The full list of awards and nominees is listed below.

Nominations are now open for Festival or Event of the Year.  Whether a well-established celebration or a new cultural event, eligible entries are encouraged to submit or be nominated for a chance at prestigious recognition.

Applications close at midnight on Sunday, 26 October 2025, with a shortlist of finalists announced shortly after. A public vote will then run from 1 to 30 November 2025, with the finalist receiving the highest number of votes crowned the winner of the coveted title.

Finalists in all other categories will now progress to the final round of independent judging, which includes a series of mystery visits to determine the winners. Chatsworth reveals enchanting theme for Christmas 2025

Chatsworth has unveiled The Enchanted Garden as this year’s Christmas theme. The house and grounds will transform into a magical space celebrating the hidden beauty and quiet magic of the natural world.

British artists and animators have collaborated to create this immersive, multi-sensory experience. It invites visitors into a realm where the mystical spirit of the outdoors reigns.

Visitors will be able to explore 20 extraordinary spaces transformed with light, sound, and shadow play. As well as discovering towering Christmas trees and a grand cluster of mistletoe. They will also see shimmering copper toadstools and twirling oak leaf archways, each inspired by the wonders of nature.

Chatsworth Christmas theme

The adventure will begin in Chatsworth House, where a trail of light, flowers, tree silhouettes, and natural textures will lead visitors through woodland-inspired spaces. Together, these elements will create an enchanted setting that encourages connection with nature.

Award-winning mixed-reality artists Studio McGuire have crafted bespoke animations, projections, and music, enriching the experience with layers of storytelling and atmosphere. They will transform the spaces with seasonal scenes and enchanted fairies. Woodland creatures crouch in secret corners, while tiny doorways hint at pathways to hidden lands.

The experience combines treasures from the Devonshire Collections. New commissions by Peak District-based artists Winning Works, Everdenes, Wirksworth Pottery and Waney Grain complement the display. It also features majestic willow sculptures by internationally renowned artist Emma Stothard.

In the garden, visitors will discover enchanting spaces where reality and magic intertwine along an immersive light trail. Light artists Luminism have created the garden trail. It transforms some of Chatsworth’s best-loved landmarks, including the Cascade, Willow Tree Fountain, Rock Garden, Ring Pond and Maze. The journey ends with a spectacular animated light and sound projection on the house, inspired by this year’s theme and brought to life by Studio McGuire.

“The Enchanted Garden is the culmination of a year spent honouring the beauty and resilience of the natural world at Chatsworth. As winter settles in, we invite visitors to pause, explore, and celebrate the quiet magic of the season.” Said Susie Stokoe, Head of Textiles at Chatsworth. “We can’t wait for people to step into this world of wonder and renewal, and to experience Chatsworth in a new light.

Visitors can enjoy this festive experience from 8 November 2025 to 4 January 2026.

Firms take the lead in East Midlands green growth

More East Midlands businesses are getting sales from Green Goods and Services, while small and medium-sized firms have increased their green growth engagement in the last year. Headline findings from joint research published by East Midlands Chamber and the University of Derby.

The tenth annual Green Growth Trends in the East Midlands report reveals that more businesses are generating sales from Green Goods and Services. Engagement in environmentally sustainable economic growth has tripled among East Midlands firms since 2015.

Key findings include:

  • Nearly half (46%) of East Midlands firms now earn revenue from Green Goods and Services, up 3% from 2024.

  • Decarbonisation efforts have increased by 2.7% since last year, with 48.1% of firms now actively reducing carbon emissions. SMEs are leading the charge, with seven in ten medium-sized firms and half of small firms investing in decarbonisation.

  • Fewer large businesses are engaged in green growth, dropping from 75% in 2024 to 40% in 2025, while small and medium enterprises are stepping up their involvement.

  • Collaboration remains limited, with less than 10% of firms working together on green growth initiatives, and nearly half (46%) have never engaged in nature-based solutions.

Richard Blackmore, Director of Policy and Insight at East Midlands Chamber, said:
“The lift in the number of firms addressing sustainability goals shows East Midlands businesses are prioritising the journey toward net zero. Smaller and medium-sized firms are embracing the opportunities presented by decarbonisation strategies, from boosting reputation to reducing energy costs and preparing for a cleaner future.”

Dr Polina Baranova, Associate Professor of Strategy and Sustainability at Derby International Business School, added:
“Green growth is multifaceted and faces challenges such as market development for green products, investment in decarbonisation, and skills gaps. A stable and clear policy support is needed to encourage businesses to invest confidently in sustainable growth.”

NeoDyne expands its Chesterfield office

NeoDyne has recently taken on further office space in Spire Walk in Chesterfield to support its rapid growth.

NeoDyne is building a hub for advanced engineering and digital technology in Chesterfield. From BESS and Biomethane Gas Injection to global MES rollouts, NeoDyne is driving innovation on projects like Botley BESS and UK-wide energy initiatives, while supporting customers across Europe and beyond.

Matt Close from NeoDyne said, “The company was reaching the point where we were outgrowing its current space. Expanding our high-quality Chesterfield office space made good sense to build on the investment made two and a half years ago when we first invested in the United Kingdom.

NeoDyne’s culture is heavily based on employing young, talented people and seeing them grow when they invest in them. Since they started two and a half years ago, they have employed over 10 graduates and two apprentices, as well as some more experienced staff.

Matt continued, “ While this is far quicker than they expected, we are looking to replicate this growth over the coming years and will need additional office space to accommodate the additional resources.

We look to recruit graduates and apprentices in engineering roles, from Electrical Engineers, Automation, Digital Manufacturing, and similar skills.”

Chesterfield is currently NeoDyne’s only office in the UK.  Its location provides Neodyne with a good central base and excellent transportation options. It also offers a strong pool of local engineering talent, especially from the local universities with which it partners.  Recently, they have also undertaken a promotional video to strengthen their ties with the University of Sheffield.

Breathe Pilates launches Chesterfield’s first LED x Hot studio

Breathe Pilates has officially opened on Chatsworth Road, bringing the UK’s first LED x Hot Pilates studio to Chesterfield.

Located at 131 Chatsworth Road, Breathe Pilates introduces a fresh concept to the town’s thriving fitness scene.

The brand new studio combines reformer Pilates with hot air and LED light therapy, creating a wellness experience unlike anything else in the UK.  This innovative approach offers a wide range of benefits, including improved strength, flexibility, recovery, and overall well-being.
