Markham Vale expansion aims to create 100 new jobs

Property developer HBD, part of Henry Boot, is bringing forward a new 31,264 sq ft commercial scheme at Markham Vale which could create more than 100 new jobs.

Reserved matters planning has been submitted for Markham Vale Trade Park; a brand-new development designed for trade counter businesses and SMEs. A 4,000 sq ft pre-let is already under offer to a national operator in a deal that could create around 16 full-time jobs.

Markham Vale is a flagship 200-acre industrial and logistics scheme delivered in joint venture between HBD and Derbyshire County Council. An award-winning development, it remains one of the region’s best-located industrial and logistics schemes, sitting at the heart of the UK motorway network and providing direct access to the M1 via a dedicated junction, J29a.

Vivienne Clements, Executive Director at HBD, said: “The Trade Park will be the newest addition to Markham Vale aiming to accommodate trade occupiers and smaller business who want to benefit from the scheme’s prominence and accessibility to the surrounding demographic. The Trade Park will provide much-needed Grade A space, allowing smaller trade businesses to operate from energy-efficient buildings in a prime business location.

Occupiers will benefit from Gridserve’s new Electric Forecourt being developed on the adjacent plot. Markham Vale Trade Park is expected to start on site late this year.

Specialist metals supplier confirms major expansion at Markham Vale

Gould Alloys has expanded at Markham Vale, taking a further 55,000 sq. ft. on a 10-year lease.

The deal, which will see Gould Alloys expand into the MV55 unit, comes almost a decade after the business first arrived at Markham Vale, moving into a purpose-built 50,000 sq. ft. building and investing more than £1million in new technology and machinery.

Markham Vale is a flagship 200-acre industrial and logistics scheme in Chesterfield; a joint venture partnership between property developer HBD and Derbyshire County Council. It remains one of the region’s best-located developments, sitting at the heart of the UK motorway network and providing direct access to the M1 via a dedicated junction, J29a.

The new building forms a key part of Gould Alloys’ sustainability strategy, while providing additional space to deliver new contracts in the future.

The deal also demonstrates the continued demand for space at Markham Vale, with MV55 immediately let with no void period.

Noodle Bar to serve up a treat at Markham Vale

A brand-new drive-thru noodle bar is set to open at North Derbyshire’s Markham Vale development, next to J29A of the M1 motorway.

Planning permission has been granted for a Chopstix Noodle Bar which will occupy the final remaining plot in the services area at Markham Vale – one of the region’s flagship industrial schemes, attracting new businesses into the area and creating thousands of jobs.

The new drive-thru joins the likes of fish and chip restaurant Chesters and Gridserve, another new occupier set to open a state-of-the-art electrical vehicle charging station later this year.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Clean Growth and Regeneration, Councillor Tony King,  said: “It’s great that we’ve secured another employer bringing a further 20 full time equivalent service industry jobs to Markham Vale.

“We’re pleased that this phase of the scheme to establish a high-quality service stop at junction 29a is almost complete with Gridserve due to start work on building an electric charging forecourt later this year.

“Next we’ll be concentrating our efforts on securing new occupiers for the remaining development plots having just gained planning approval for the construction of four new industrial units on Enterprise Way.”

Major new development set to build on the success story of Markham Vale

A major extension to the Markham Vale North development, granted by Chesterfield Borough Council in December last year, has now been approved by Bolsover District Council.

The decision is a significant milestone for the project and follows three years of extensive discussions with both councils and the local community. It will enable the creation of a high-quality addition to the commercial offer at Markham Vale, further strengthening the local economy.

HBD, the developer behind Markham Vale, will work with Devonshire Property Group to bring the new scheme forward, with the potential to create up to 800 new jobs.

The extension to the Markham Vale North development will boast strong sustainability credentials, with an extensive landscaping plan that protects and improves the existing river corridor.

Significant planting will include around 5,700 new trees (including 2.15ha of new woodland planting), 3.7ha of new grassland habitat and 2km of new native hedgerow to screen the development and create areas of new habitat.

Markham Vale, a joint venture partnership between HBD and Derbyshire County Council which began in 2006, has created more than 2,700 jobs across a wide range of sectors, including advanced manufacturing and logistics. It is home to a range of businesses, including Bilstein Group, which manufactures and distributes automotive parts, Granger International manufacturers of waterproof outdoor products and shoe care products, and Sterigenics, makers of sterile healthcare products.
