Creating contemporary spaces in Chesterfield and Staveley town centres

New artist’s impressions have been revealed as two major regeneration schemes in Chesterfield and Staveley take milestone steps to transform our town centres into contemporary spaces.

Work to revamp Chesterfield town centre including our historic market place begins this summer Chesterfield Borough Council has announced.

The Revitalising the Heart of Chesterfield project will transform the look, feel and flow of key public spaces. The project has already seen work begin on the refurbishment of our town’s iconic Stephenson Memorial Hall, and improvements to Packers Row.

A new layout has been confirmed for Market Square – making it easier for shoppers to explore, with modernised stalls complemented with vibrant new canopies in heritage colours and the historic Town Pump a unique feature.

New Square will become a more flexible space designed to support the main market and speciality markets and host festivals and events to bring our town centre to life.

Rykneld Square will become a green space where we can enjoy our much-loved Crooked Spire, and better connect this landmark to the town centre.

Imaginative new lighting will be installed at Spire Walk, enhancing the appearance of our iconic Crooked Spire at night, and creating a more attractive link into Rykneld Square.

Improved paving and lighting will revamp Corporation Street – a key entrance from Chesterfield Railway Station to Chesterfield Museum and the Pomegranate Theatre.

In Staveley, formal plans have been submitted for a new landmark building between Staveley Miners Welfare building and Staveley High Street.

The plans are a key part of the £6 million Staveley 21 project, which will transform the marketplace to support the hosting of new events, provide new tiered seating for outdoor theatre and open-air cinema screenings, and create natural play equipment for families. The scheme also includes better connections to Chesterfield Canal, improved lighting and a greener town centre.

The new building aims to reflect Staveley’s heritage with a modern twist, opening the view from Market Street into the town centre.

Several uses for the building are currently being considered including as a potential site for Staveley library or for retail, leisure, and business start-up uses.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said:

“The Revitalising the Heart of Chesterfield project will be completed in phases and is due for completion in 2025.

“We have a strong track record of making the most of external funding opportunities to invest in the future of our borough, and through projects like the Revitalising the Heart of Project this work will bring real improvements for the residents and businesses of our town, while boosting our appeal to visitors.”

Speaking about Staveley, Councillor Sarvent said:

“Town centres are changing and by trying to expand the offer, creating new opportunities for events and social spaces we want to boost visitor numbers and provide the space for local businesses to thrive.

“We’ll continue to engage directly with local businesses and residents over the coming months to finalise the plans and ensure the project meets their needs, including hosting more drop-in sessions for residents.”

The pavilion building has been designed by Chesterfield firm, Whittam Cox Architects. Ryan Fish, Associate Director at Whittam Cox Architects, said:

“Our team has meticulously developed the Pavilion building as part of the Staveley centre masterplan with utmost care and consideration. This project presented us with a unique opportunity to influence a scheme close to home, drawing on our intricate knowledge of the local area. The result is a contemporary development that not only honours Staveley’s heritage but also serves as a catalyst and hub of activity for future development, aligning with the long-term vision for the area.”

Ivan Fomin, Chair of the Staveley Town Deal Board, said: “The Staveley 21 project has the potential to be transformative for the town centre, ensuring that it is a place where local people and visitors will want to spend time whilst also supporting local businesses to grow not only now but in the future. Our aim through the town deal is ensuring that Staveley is a place where people can Start, Stay and Grow and the town centre reflects this with something to entice all ages to visit, support local businesses and help them to grow.”

The Revitalising the Heart of Chesterfield project will be completed in phases and is due for completion in 2025.

The Staveley area is benefitting from £25.2m worth of government funding through the Town Deal, which must be spent by March 2026.

Chesterfield manufacturers support town’s young people despite Storm Babet disruption

Several Chesterfield firms have supported young people to gain insights into careers in manufacturing and engineering, despite some firms experiencing business interruption caused by Storm Babet.

During the Made in Chesterfield campaign which ran throughout November, school pupils in the town gained access to some of the area’s leading companies, to explore what a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) could look like for them.

Despite the storms in October which saw floods in many parts of Chesterfield, firms still gave up their time and resources to offer tours of their premises where possible.

United Cast Bar paid visits to several local schools, showcasing their commitment to supporting young people and informing them of the careers available. The company gave presentations on the range of exciting careers available in manufacturing and engineering, as well as explaining the importance of cast iron production to support other sectors around the world.

Hosted by Destination Chesterfield in association with Direct Education Business Partnership (DEBP) and sponsored by Chesterfield College, the purpose of Made in Chesterfield is to help close skills gaps in the town’s manufacturing and engineering sectors, with just under 4,000 people set to be working in those key industries across the Chesterfield borough by 2030.

Several firms joined United Cast Bar to support the campaign, including Hogg Norton, Penny Hydraulics, MSE Hiller, Dalton Roofing, and Weightron Bilanciai.

James Brand, Managing Director (Foundries) at United Cast Bar Group, said: “Our organisation has supported Made in Chesterfield since 2014, and despite facing some disruption to our business activity back in October, we were determined to continue our commitment to this vital campaign. Young people are the future of our business and for Chesterfield’s diverse manufacturing sector. Therefore, it is essential to support them by showcasing the wide range of career opportunities we can offer.”

Ivan Fomin, Director at MSE Hiller and Destination Chesterfield board member commented: “Made in Chesterfield continues to inspire the next generation of skilled individuals across our area. Not only does it support businesses in helping them build a talented workforce, but it also highlights to young people the clear pathways available to them. We know that businesses continue to face challenges around recruitment, which is why schemes such as Made in Chesterfield are vital to ensure our key sectors of manufacturing, engineering and construction continue to thrive in the future.”

Julie Richards, Principal and CEO of Chesterfield College said: “Having sponsored Made in Chesterfield for several years, we have seen the real impact the initiative has had on people’s lives. Once again, we were proud to support this campaign in inspiring young people to consider a rewarding career in Chesterfield’s growing manufacturing, engineering and construction industries.”

Clare Talati, CEO of Direct Education Business Partnership (DEBP) added: “Made in Chesterfield makes an important contribution to the CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) offer across the area; providing context for learners of the world of work, showcasing local opportunities, and enabling employers to meet potential future employees.”

Thanks to partners, Made in Chesterfield has now completed activities to engage students for a tenth year, one of several campaigns designed to raise the profile of living and working in Chesterfield.

The Destination Chesterfield Partnership has received £180,000 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. It follows a successful funding bid by Chesterfield Borough Council, to secure £2.69 million worth of funding for local projects.

Chesterfield voted happiest place to live in East Midlands

Chesterfield has been ranked as the happiest place to live in the East Midlands by Rightmove in its 2023 Happy at Home index.

Each year, the firm asks thousands of people across Great Britain how they feel about where they live. This year’s study was completed by over 26,000 residents.

Contributors said Chesterfield gives them a sense of pride, belonging and community. Access to green space and nature is also important to residents, with those living in a rural area near a national park, or an area of outstanding natural beauty more likely to feel happy where they live.

Dom Stevens, Destination Chesterfield Manager, said: “It comes as no surprise that Chesterfield has been ranked as the happiest place to live in the East Midlands.

“My wife and I chose to base our family here thirteen years ago because of all the town has to offer. It is an affordable place to live, with green spaces and good schools, close to the Peak District National Park, and its central location allows us to travel to the rest of our family across the country easily. These strengths have only increased as our children have grown up in Chesterfield.”

Richard Sherwood, Director at Roy Peters Estates, commented: “Chesterfield enjoys a warm community feel, historic charm and a range of fantastic local amenities, making it a great choice for people without the added cost of living in a major city.

“The town also boasts fantastic transport links, with the added benefit of having the glorious Peak District National Park on its doorstep. All of these things make it a unique location to build a happy and healthy lifestyle.”

Daniel Elliott, Managing Director at Wilkins Vardy added:

“Chesterfield has always been a popular place to buy property, with a beautiful historic town centre and Chatsworth so close. When compared to the national average, property prices are extremely competitive and we are looking forward to a busy 2024 now that the market and mortgage rates seem to have settled.”

A popular town for families to live in, Chesterfield was also named the happiest place to live in the East Midlands by Rightmove in 2021.

Roy Peters Estates and Wilkins Vardy support the marketing and economic growth of the town through Chesterfield Champions, a network of over 200 organisations across Chesterfield and North Derbyshire.

East Midlands moves closer to accessing more devolution funding

The East Midlands has moved closer to becoming a combined authority and unlocking billions of pounds of additional funding after key legislation was approved in Westminster.

The Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill has been granted Royal Assent, paving the way for the creation of the EMCCA and the region’s first Mayoral elections next May.

Derbyshire County Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, Derby City Council and Nottingham City Council will now decide whether to move forward with devolution plans, with decisions expected before the end of the year.

The East Midlands devolution deal, agreed with Government ministers last summer, would see Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Derby and Nottingham benefit from £1.14 billion of funding over 30 years to invest in local projects related to transport, education and skills, housing, the environment and economic development.

Barry Lewis, Leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: “This is a key milestone on the road to agreeing plans to bring in £38 million a year for the East Midlands and move major decision-making to the people who best know our communities, rather than Westminster.

“It’s about improving the lives of people across our region by bringing more and better jobs, opportunities for training, better transport and housing, improving the local economy and accelerating our route to Net Zero. But that’s just the start. If this deal is agreed, we’re determined to build on it over time as other areas have done, bringing further benefits for our residents in the future.”

The powers and funding will be held by the proposed East Midlands Combined County Authority, for which there will be an elected mayor from May 2024, and is presently being steered by the elected leaders from the two city and two county councils which signed the deal.

Representatives from District and Borough Councils, alongside wider partners from business and other sectors, will further support the organisation’s development and governance.

Devolution plans for the East Midlands are similar to those already in place across other mayoral regions like Greater Manchester and the West Midlands.

If the plans go ahead, the EMCCA – spanning two counties and cities – would be the first combined county authority in the country, with a new elected regional mayor at the helm, representing around 2.2 million people.

More funding is expected to become available once the EMCCA is formed – so far, £18 million has been awarded to the area as early investment during devolution negotiations, which is being spent on improving local housing, transport and skills provision.

Earlier this month, the Government announced around £1.5 billion in transport funding for the East Midlands Mayor, who would be in place from May 2024.

Thanks to devolution proposals, the East Midlands has been invited to establish an ‘Investment Zone’, which will attract £80 million of support over five years, with tax incentives for businesses to help boost economic growth right across the region.

Further investment to boost local projects across the region would also be provided through annual Whitehall budgets and spending reviews.

Chesterfield Champions celebrated as 2023 Derbyshire Business Awards finalists revealed

East Midlands Chamber has revealed this year’s finalists for its Derbyshire Business Awards, including six Chesterfield Champions that have made the lineup.

CarMats.co.uk, Eco Tech Engineers, Hopkinson Waste, Penguin PR, Rose Cottage Doggy Daycare, and Rosewood Wealth Management are set to be celebrated at a prestigious awards ceremony taking place in November.

The dinner is one of three taking place to honour around 150 companies across the three counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.

Finalists now have a chance to state their case for winning at virtual judging panels taking place in the week commencing 11 September. Panels will comprise sponsors, a Chamber board member and a representative from the Chamber’s senior leadership team.

An overall Business of the Year is also selected for each county from all finalists by headline partner Mazars. Last year’s winner for Derbyshire was Katapult.

East Midlands Chamber chief executive Scott Knowles said: “The resilience, ingenuity and hunger for growth within the East Midlands business community never ceases to amaze.

“Our firms have faced some of the greatest challenges they will have ever encountered in recent times. Rather than become consumed by these, they have instead found new ways to succeed, whether that be through collaborating with other organisations, adopting new technologies to innovate, connecting with local communities, developing new export markets, or identifying opportunities for driving environmental and cost efficiencies.

“These achievements are reflected across the lineup of this year’s Business Awards, along with individual honours that recognise the tremendous entrepreneurship existing in our region, as well as the future generation of talent among our outstanding apprentices.”

A gala dinner takes place for Derbyshire Businesses on Friday 10 November at Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Hosted by ITV Central news presenter Sameena Ali-Khan, the evening features a three-course gourmet dining experience, keynote speakers, live entertainment and networking opportunities.

Chesterfield businesses are stronger together

Despite the return to lockdown, Chesterfield businesses are now looking ahead to a spring recovery following the roll out of the Oxford vaccine.

Whether your focus is survival or growth, there is plenty you can be doing to prepare for the future.  Every decision you make now could impact your business’ ability to thrive post pandemic.

But you’re not alone in your preparations.  Chesterfield businesses are keen to collaborate and have shared their stories to inspire further success across the town.

Business Support

Are you working closely with local organisations?

Ossies’s Fresh Ginger was grateful of complimentary support from Chesterfield Borough Council’s business advisor, Adrian Williamson.  Owner, Ossie Bash Taqi said: “As a fledgling enterprise we needed advice and guidance in developing the business particularly in COVID times.  Adrian has been invaluable in advising on procedural measures and in setting both long and short term targets and guiding us in the development of a business plan – all extremely useful to a relaunching business.”

“Adrian provided us with contacts and links to a variety of appropriate organisations which we will be able to use for continued support and specialist guidance such as the Food and Drink Forum and Feast 2, as well as giving us options on potential funding streams as the business is unexpectedly expanding.”

SDE Group has saved money by trading locally with Mad Designs Ltd.  Charlotte Watson, 3D Designer at SDE Group said: “They have assisted in huge cost savings in producing good quality loading signs for our clients. We received advice in the most cost efficient and best quality way in producing our signs to provide 100% customer satisfaction to all our clients – therefore increasing our sales.”

“We are always looking for more local businesses to collaborate with, aid the local community and welcome any person / company  to talk through more opportunities.”

The team at Mitchells Chartered Accountants has been recommended by Nine Limes Digital for being so helpful despite the web design agency not being a client and offering advice free of charge.  Steve Bassett, Director of Nine Limes Design said: “Mitchells Chartered Accountants made us aware of the availability of discretionary grants to local businesses in the Chesterfield area which were not eligible to receive funding from other areas.  Andrew provided invaluable support and advice in our successful application and I am extremely grateful for this.”

Do check out more local businesses for your next tender.

How can you support your team?

With so much change over the past year, it’s likely you will have identified a need to invest in training to drive things forward.

Last year Peak Pipe Systems, ControlPoint Ltd and Weightron Bilancia all upskilled their management teams with thousands of pounds worth of training – for free, thanks to a Government scheme.

Laura Chapman HR Manager at Peak Pipe Systems commented: “Investing in our people is a priority but we have to keep an eye on our budgets.  A number of talented staff across our shop floor, offices and warehouse had been promoted to team leaders, but had not received managerial training. Skills Support for the Workforce enabled us to support them in their roles.”

Chesterfield businesses have been benefiting from free online workshops.  A new programme has been announced this month by D2N2 Growth Hub with courses ranging from email marketing to employee empowerment.  And 12 week digital skills courses opened in December for both employees and job seekers with local training provider GBS offering courses in Digital Marketing, Content Creation and IT.

There’s support on hand to help your senior team establish goals for the year ahead with a free webinar from Business Doctors Chesterfield.

And six businesses can access twelve months of complimentary coaching from ActionCOACH, with applications due by 29th January.

See more programmes that support with skills and training.

Resources and Information

Is it time to recruit?

Whilst some redundancies may be unavoidable, the Government’s furlough scheme has helped millions of people to stay in employment.  And you may be thinking about growing your team to hit the ground running ahead of recovery.

Local recruiters that are working with Destination Chesterfield to grow the town’s economy have been pleased to assist during the pandemic.

If you’re looking to recruit an apprentice like Chesterfield businesses Addooco, Inspire Design and Development and UKATA, the upcoming Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Employability and Skills Conference will provide a helpful platform to find out more.  The Chesterfield Apprentice Town website is also very informative.

Community Chesterfield, which supports the voluntary sector, has benefitted from the free recruitment of two interns through the University of Derby including graduate, Hayley Beaumont.

Charlotte Repton, Project Manager of Community Chesterfield said: “Using Hayley’s design skills and expertise, Community Chesterfield was able to offer branding services free of charge to voluntary organisations, which included refreshing logos and designing web pages, delivering over £1000 worth of services during her short internship”.

And Chesterfield businesses have been supported to offer virtual work experience to young people.  For more details check out this information session on 27th January.

Can you afford not to update your IT?

It requires careful planning to maintain adequate cash flow.  But prioritising innovation will be key to unlocking post crisis growth.  And there is financial support available to help you achieve this.

The Government Grant and Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS) and the speedy response of Chesterfield Borough Council were cited as key factors in the recent growth of Chesterfield recruiter, Edwards Employment Solutions.

Izabella Edwards, Managing Director explained: “Thanks to funding I was able to invest in a CRM system which allows the business to manage candidates and clients more easily, saving time and money.  Having this system in place meant I had the resources and infrastructure to pitch for and secure a number of large contracts. It meant a complete turn-around for us and led to the business making four new appointments and needing larger offices.

Similarly, a free IT review from Central Technology has given Ashgate Hospicecare a strong understanding of future requirements, enabling the team to start 2021 in a stronger position.

Matt Corbishley, Director of People and Performance, Ashgate Hospicecare said: “We enlisted the services of CT to help us ensure technology provided the foundations we need to support our charitable objectives and long term future goals. The team have worked closely with our IT Manager, leadership team and board of trustees to develop a technology roadmap that met these long term charitable and business objectives.”

How can you raise your profile?

Whether your business is busy or temporarily closed, it’s always a good idea to remind current and future customers that you are here and to maintain a positive image of yourself in your customer’s mind, ready for when they are looking to access you.

Some of the companies that have been learning how to gain free coverage within the local media include Liza Bakes, StraightCurves and A&A PhotographyDestination Chesterfield’s PR free workshops run twice a year and the first 2021 date will be announced shortly.

And there are currently 190 local organisations – known as Chesterfield Champions – working with Destination Chesterfield to raise the profile of the town and its successful businesses.

It has been a popular time to invest in improvements to the online customer experience.  Love Brewing has made its website more user friendly and added more product lines.  Cheese Factor has traded online for the first time by adding Shopify to its existing website.  Rosewood Wealth is taking appointments through Shop Appy.

And businesses have been thinking creatively when it comes to live experiences.  Bridal boutique, Precious Memories brought her brand to life outdoors in St James Square at Vicar Lane Shopping Centre, also utilising the new big screen where a number of independent retailers have been promoted.

Dotique was one of a number of Chesterfield businesses to benefit from free inclusion in the Fiver Fest scheme promoted by S40 Local to encourage shopping locally.

Claire from Stephenson’s Tea & Coffee House was grateful of free promotion in Twist magazine, which responded to the pandemic by setting up a loyalty card scheme for readers.  Claire said: “We’ve been shown cards by people coming in, entitling them to receive a free hot drink with their breakfasts. I regularly received comments from people who say they have seen our offer mentioned in Twist.”

A safe space to work?

During lockdown many small and start-up businesses have found themselves sharing their home office workspace with partners, who have suddenly found themselves working from home, as well as with children who are self-isolating.

Working at local cafes such as Stephensons Tea and Coffee House has provided quiet and productive space to work, and will be appreciated again once venues can reopen.  And Chesterfield’s meeting spaces have strengthened hygiene policies to provide a safe space to meet ready for reopening (although please do check with each individual venue as the end of lockdown approaches).

If you’re looking for new premises in the near future, the team at Chesterfield Borough Council can carry out a free property search for your business.  One option is the Chesterfield Enterprise Centre, which is due to be completed in spring 2021.

Local charity, Junction Arts, which works with people to improve well-being and inspire change through the arts, recently moved into West Studios to take advantage of the benefits the space offers. Jemma Burton from the team at Junction Arts said:

“It is really nice to be in the office at West Studios. The studio space works really well for us on a practical level and moving gave us a better deal because of everything that was included as part of the tenancy: utilities, internet, security, cleaning, and parking are all part of the package. The money we have saved on our running costs will go directly into projects which will benefit communities. Not only that, it has a nice feel to it from a social and networking point of view. There is a welcoming atmosphere. We are meeting different tenants and making connections with artists and different businesses. It is a great place to raise your profile.”

West Studios has also launched a virtual office space to support small and start-up businesses in Chesterfield to develop and be part of a bigger network of creative industries.

Time to become more sustainable?

Tackling the effects of climate change is a key priority for Chesterfield Borough Council, having declared a climate emergency.  And East Midlands Chamber has launched its Sustainable East Midlands campaign to help businesses engage with the sustainability agenda.

Although some businesses may be reluctant to the required changes coming from new regulations, becoming greener also brings opportunities to reduce costs, for securing new business and for innovation.

At the end of 2020, Chesterfield based Custom Solar created energy savings for local company, Xbite, equivalent to supplying eight average UK homes with electricity for one year.  Xbite was awarded a maximum value £20,000 low-carbon energy grant to help install over 270 solar panels at its HQ offices at Barlborough and warehouse at Markham Vale.

Nick Whitehead, managing director at Xbite, said: “The DE-Carbonise Team took all the hassle away from applying for the grant and were great to work with. Solar panels will help us reduce our CO2 emissions by 20,731kg per year, and generate 74,760 kWh per year of electricity, some of which we will be able to sell back to the National Grid.”

The DE-Carbonise project launched in November 2019 and is a 3-year extension to the previously successful and award-winning D2EE project, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Grants of up to £20,000 are available for businesses looking to improve their environmental practices. Over 500 businesses in Derby and Derbyshire have been supported to date.

Let’s work together

It’s likely your business has already engaged with other local organisations – either before or during the pandemic.  The town is well-known for collaborative working and Destination Chesterfield is pleased to link together with partners to support growth and development.

We’d love to say hello.

5 ideas to celebrate World Kindness Day

World Kindness Day is celebrated on 13th November and this year we can probably all agree that compassion for others is needed more than ever.

But acts of kindness don’t need to involve grand gestures.  Showing someone that you care could be as simple as a smile or remembering to say thank you.

From donating your time to others, to making time to look after yourself, Destination Chesterfield shares stories from local businesses to inspire kindness today and every day.

1. Donate your time and knowledge

If money is tight, but you still want to give back to your community, why not share your time and skills with others.

NLT Training is running a free programme to support job hunters, offering practical help and support including work experience.

ActionCOACH Chesterfield is providing free coaching webinars on marketing, mindset and finance to help businesses and charities navigate through challenging times.  And Managing Director and Certified Business Coach, Fiaz Sadiq has set aside 5 complimentary hours per week to coach 5 businesses or charities throughout lockdown.

SEO CoPilot has volunteered to build a website for Chesterfield homeless charity, Pathways, as well as helping to expand the charity’s online presence.  In the future, the team would like to support an animal shelter or similar organisation, and everyone is keen to do their bit to help the local community.

2. Support local charities

You feel good when you help others and it was fantastic to see so many people using City Taxi’s new food delivery app over the summer, raising more than £7,000 for Ashgate Hospicecare and Chesterfield Royal Hospital.  For World Kindness Day, City Taxis is planning to surprise the staff at Ashgate Hospicecare with a complimentary afternoon tea delivery, working with a local cafe.  And the company will also be inviting people to nominate a loved one to win a home delivery through its competition, running across its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels.

Over the festive period there are several initiatives you can get involved with to make Christmas magical for underprivileged local children.  Greatest Hits Radio North Derbyshire and Chesterfield FC Community Trust are just two organisations that have made it their mission to ensure every child in the area has a present to open on Christmas day.

Find more local charities to support here.  And if you’d like to track all of your fundraising and volunteering, you can do that for free with the Chesterfield-based Investors in Community platform.

3. Be there for others

Isolation and lockdown can be very lonely times and so it’s important to make time to check in with your friends, family and colleagues and find ways to come together wherever possible – whether that is in person or virtually.

Dronfield Heritage Trust has provided online activities to support wellbeing, as well as pulling out all the stops to squeeze in a wedding for a very grateful couple prior to the current lockdown period.

The University of Derby has been inviting businesses to sign up to its employee mental health support scheme and nearly 2000 employers took part in the first phase of the project, helping people to stay in or return to work.

4. Be creative

You could combine your kind spirit with your creativity like the team at Geeks Headquarters, which has volunteered its 3D printer to produce over 450 mask straps for local medical facilities during the Coronavirus pandemic.

And a variety of commemorative window and wall displays were created ahead of Remembrance Day by service users and support teams of Chesterfield-based specialist care provider, Heathcotes.  A great way to mark the day in place of traditional services that were not possible due to the lockdown period.

5. Be kind to yourself

Possibly the most important variety of kindness is self-care.

Chesterfield estate agent opens second office in Chesterfield

Award-winning, local estate agent, Dales & Peaks has continued its growth plan by opening a second branch in Chesterfield.

Based in one of the modern leisure units at 131, Chatsworth Road, the new office has a prime high street location alongside popular boutique shops and independent restaurants, including Nonnas and 360 Wellbeing.

Sales Director, Tom Currey said: “As an agent consistently known for breaking the mold and creating marketing for our client’s properties to help them ‘stand out from the crowd,’ we decided against placing the new shop in the town centre, and instead opted for Chesterfield’s cosmopolitan suburb of Brampton on Chatsworth Road.

“Internally the new shop has been fitted out in the style of an upmarket bar or grand lounge and the windows are fitted with screens designed to showcase properties in a unique way – with 3D tours, slideshows of properties and a huge 65 inch screen to show off featured properties, right in the window on Chatsworth Road.  It’s all very modern and very cool!”

Established in 2006, the family business already has an office at Old Brick Works Lane in Chesterfield and in Matlock, with further plans for growth in the pipeline.  The business employs 15 staff members, with the view to growing this further in 2021.

Dales and Peaks supports the marketing and economic growth of the town through Chesterfield Champions, a network of over 180 organisations across Chesterfield and North Derbyshire.

Elliot Mather raises thousands for Ashgate Hospicecare

Elliot Mather Solicitors has raised a total of £14,000 for Chesterfield charity, Ashgate Hospicecare.

The impressive fundraising figure is the result of a year of company raffles, as well as many team members taking part in the Sparkle Night Walk and local events such as the Redbrik Chesterfield Half Marathon.  The money will help Ashgate Hospicecare to offer a vital range of therapy and support services on site for patients with life-limiting illnesses, as well as family members.

Alan Grant, Chief Operating Officer at Elliot Mather Solicitors said: “As a company, we believe that it is important to give back to the local community. Our Chesterfield office has been supporting Ashgate Hospicecare for several years and we find it amazing how their events bring people together in solidarity.”

“We are thrilled to have raised such an amazing amount of money for such a worthy cause and it is because of the dedication of our team that we have been able to do this.”

“Although the coronavirus pandemic has affected many fundraising events, this will not affect their determination to continue fundraising. They are looking forward to what the next 12 months will bring for them!”
